This is really an unusually charming place for an hostel. Basic but well decorated rooms are all situated around the inner courtyard. Even if the volume is kept to a minimum at night it could be too much if you have a "light" sleep. Great lakes and hutong around the place, metro snacks and shopping street also nearby. Only cons... more

There is no plush lobby, no TV set in each room, shower spreads over the toilet, sometimes hear noise from the corridor by other guests in morning, room is very basic, no toiletries, but, why people choose China to visit? Certainly for the Chinese antique, culture, its uniqueness, and here you are. I always wish to stay in Hutong to... more

We stayed at the Red Lantern House for 4 nights and found it one of the most comfortable places we stayed in during our month long trip to China. We arrived from a long overnight train really early but the staff let us check into our room straight away which was really appreciated. We weren't in the main building and... more

We had a pleasant stay here in Red Lantern House. The place is very unique and China-esque. It's actually a cultural experience in a way because you get to feel how to live in a Hutong. The staff speaks relatively good English and are very helpful in all our concerns. One of the staff gave us a nice tip on... more

Would definitely stay here again, there are two buildings, the main one looked really atmospheric and fun (it had the dorms in so we didn't get to stay there) instead we were round the corner in the single storey courtyard based hostel, which was clean and pretty with very helpful staff who were always available - I booked a great... more

Location is nice, worthwhile discovering the surroundings and hutongs. difficult to find, facilitiies not teh best ones anymore and very basic. If you're looking for accomodation with the courtyard and loud people in your bedroom, the perfect place, otherwise there are plenty of better alternatives in Beijing now. more

We stayed in a twinroom ensuite. Nice to have your own bathroom. The shower worked fine, 24hrs hot water, but you had to stand over the toilet while taking the shower.. The room was very clean, they came everyday and cleaned the room. The beds are chinese style = very hard, but you get used to it. Nice courtyard to... more

We stayed at Red Lantern House for 3 nights and it was great! We had 2 rooms with private baths. Food was delicious and cheap! The people are English speaking, very nice and accomodating. The air conditioning worked perfectly especially with the hot/humid weather we had. They have tours you can book on site. Very convenient but we had a... more

The hostel is based in a very interesting Hutong area, and the courtyards are a nice and quiet refuge from the busy life outside. Rooms are basic, but clean and they definately tell a story about life in the Hutongs. The always-ready-to-be-of-assistance staff is very friendly and professional with sufficient english knowledge to be able to be of great assistance.... more

The lobby is quiet and well furnished which make people feel very comfortable. The shared bathroom is clean and the toilet is clean in almost of time. I went to Beijing with 5 friends and we lived in a 8-people room. Therefore, we felt the room is big and neat enough for us. The wifi-internet is not fast enough. The... more
