Great for western tourists and backpackers. Reception staff have a reasonable grasp of English. 7 years ago when I first came to Beijing, there wasn't really a hostel life. There were some hotels beyond the second ring road which had a wing with dorms and cheap rooms for backpackers, but that was about it. I stayed at the King Joy for two nights with a tour group. I found the bathroom very clean and the beds comfortable enough. Good location, a taxi to forbidden city is very cheap about Y12.
