This hotel was obviously a grand old lady - back in the day. I had no problem with my room, although it was due for refurbishment. The room was huge, the bathroom and shower enormous. In fact, everything about this hotel is grand, yet dated. It has the biggest, best outdoor pool of any hotel I have ever been in.... more

Overall: definitely not a 5-star hotel. Hotel is old in need a full refurbishment. Service doesn't meet 5-star standards. Reception: although there were no other guests, it took 15 minutes to check-in. Concierge: dealt several times. Arguably worst assistance one can find in a supposedly 5-star hotel. They hardly spoke English; wouldn't know where to find places of interest in... more

The Sultan used to be The Hilton and it does have that chainy feel to it. The staff were friendly enough, and approachable, the restaurants were not bad, and there was a good choice. The Japanese was the best, but pricey. The bar was also nice with ornately carved wood but watch out for mosquitoes which ate us alive in... more

A friend and I made an overnight business trip to Jakarta in mid Apr 09. We decided to try the Sultan Hotel (formerly the Hilton). Security to all 5 star hotels in Jakarta is quite tight, with car inspections and metal detectors, a legacy from past security/terrorist incidents in Jakarta. The Sultan actually has two lobbies, of which only one... more

The stay was good, comfortable and memorable. The hotel has 7 different wings with 300+ suites. The hotel has nice sweeming pools, gift shops, bars, restaurents and bank ATM. Food variety and muffins counter are the most crowded places in the hotel. Muffins and cakes are delicious and mouth watering. I stayed there for a week with few business and... more

The hotel breathes of culture and tradition. The rooms were old but clean. Needs to do some changes especially the lightings. Should be brighter. Especially for business people travelling that requires to do work in the evening. There were a few entrances and we were confuse as the taxi from airport dropped us at one entrance. We had to walk... more

The room needs renovation. Bed and the pillow was good, but the carpet and the chair looked need renovation. The service was average. What excellent is the breakfast service at the cafe, the coffee was the most delicious coffee I`ve ever had in a hotel service, it was a bold javanese coffee. The quality of food the had in the... more

If what i have experieced is "Hospitality At It's Royal Best", then it's almost an insult to the royalty. The hotel - has 3 blocks of rooms and 1 block of residence. The older lobby was beautiful with lots of character and adjacent to the pool. However, check in was consolidated at the Lagoon Tower where I was housed -... more

The Sultan is the former Hilton Hotel in Jakarta, but in my opinion, and at least on the Executive floor of the Lagoon Tower, the standards of service are much better than they would have been at the Hilton. And it's not so much the great B/F buffet with personal service, or the Happy Hour with lots of delicious refreshments... more
