We were in Tangkahan in March and had a great time. The accommodations at Mega Inn are clean and comfortable. The amenities are basic--bucket shower and no flush toilet-- but you're out in the jungle! We had a room that had a porch overlooking the river and the view was beautiful. Mega, Sammi (and the rest of the staff) and... More

These nice bungalows are situated on a little hill across the river from Tangkahan. The hot spring is close and the village is a 5 min walk across the river. The Gecko bungalow overlooks the river. Mega and his brother, sister and the rest of the staff does everything possible to ensure that their guest are having a wonderfull time. We... More

Mega Inn is in 1 word GREAT. Although the facilities are poor, but that's not what you come for, staff is great. Mega Inn is a 1 star hotel, but staff is 5 star compliant. Great atmosphere in the bar in the evening and great and cheap food. Our children had the best memory of this location during our 3... More

We really liked this hotel because it is in the middle of the jungle, the electricity goes out at night so make sure you have plenty of flashlight and batteries. You can really relax on the porches and listen to the sound of the jungle. The rooms are basic but you don't need more in the jungle. Most of the... More

Tangkahan is difficult to get to, but one is rewarded when you arrive. Mega organised everything for us, in fact he organised our whole week in Sumatra covering Bukit Lawang & Berastagi too.....and it all worked seamlessly. At Mega Inn we had a charming (simple) stand-alone room with a balcony overlooking the river and with dozens of monkeys around. They... More

In terms of the amenities you couldn't get any more basic, but Mega has pretty well built the place himself and is aiming for an eco-friendly, low-impact facility. You certainly feel surrounded by jungle. Our hut had a verandah that overlooked the river. There was brand new rattan furniture, and a relaxing hammock. The bed had a good mosquito net.... More

stayed at the mega inn for 5 nights. the journey to get there from medan is quite long and bumpy, a 4 hour local bus trip will drop you at the bridge which is broken so the next option is a motorbike ride along a long bumpy road which takes about 30 mins. you could however hire a private car/4... So after leaving this wonderful place 18 months ago I return, this time with a friend. The reservation of my room was straight forward with an e-mail to Mega which was responded to within 30 minutes. 5 nights in Tangkahan (8 nights previous visit) isn't nearly long enough. The food is great, the company better and the local area is... More

Visited Tangkahan during Moslem holiday. Mega of Mega Inn arranged car to pick us up at Medan. It took around 3 hours to reach Tangkahan. The last section of the road to Tangkahan [around 16 km] was not yet asphalted, a rough oil-palm plantation road only, so the ride was quite bumpy. The driver Ren was very considerate, drove slowly... More

For those used to rather settled surroundings travelling the Northern parts of Sumatra (Sumatera) is a kind of an "expected adventure". We - a family of 4 with two almost grown up juniors - used Northern Sumatera as a starting point for a 4 week Tour d'Indonesia. After enjoying an inbound flight to Medan (from Singapore) and experiencing some down... More
