We are a French family of 3 (mum, dad and our 13 year old daughter), we stayed in Singapore for 3 days and what happened during our stay at the hotel, Ibis Budget Joo Chiat is simply shocking. We checked in on 19th February at the hotel, being a loyal Accor client believing all their hotels are family friendly, safe and clean, and despite this outlet being a budget one, we would have expected something else, that's an understatement! Upon checking in i was a little surprise the lady at reception held on our daughter's passport for much longer than needed, but we were tired so we went to our rooms as soon as all the admin was settled. We had booked 2 rooms for our family. The hotel did not allocate 2 rooms next to one another but on different floors, one double room , and one with twin beds room. Our daughter felt uncomfortable being on her own, therefore my wife decided to sleep in our daughter's bedroom rather than in our room. You can imagine my wife's horror and distress when at 3minutes past midnight, the phone rang in the bedroom where my daughter was supposed to be in, on her own, with a male asking: "This is reception, Is ...my daughter's full name... sleeping here, in this bedroom?" We knew no one on this hotel, and we do not call our daughter by her full name (First name and Family Name) as per her passport, the only people indeed who would have access to my daughter's full name would be employees of the hotel who have a copy of her passport and access to room allocations... My wife texted me but i was asleep, otherwise i would have called the police and we would have left on the spot...which we did the next morning for another hotel in the city! Needless to say, my wife did not sleep that night, as she was expecting someone to try and come into the room. I will not forget to mention how dirty the hotel was ( I lifted the bedside lamp, white dust everywhere on my clothes), the rooms with no windows smelled of humidity and dust, the towels and sheets were more than dubious, the beds were as hard as bricks. I am actually surprised that it passed Singapore hygiene and comfort standards? The constant noise, banging of doors and shouts in the corridor made it an even worse experience! The hotel manager never contacted us after we complained, we only received a few days later an email from their customer service rep, who implied that another hotel guest made that call, not the hotel receptionist. I am afraid, I have to disagree with the hotel statement that somehow a hotel guest knew, my daughter's full name as per her passport and room number. Clearly it was a staff from the hotel, who had full access to my daughter's passport and rooms allocation, who did this dubious call. Needless to say, we were horrified, this call was an absolute nightmare and a disgrace. Clearly this is not a place where a family can stay in confidence and for the safety of their kids, despite being in Singapore. Better don't ever go to this hotel...there are other suitable options in town.…
