Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked this hotel last minute for 1 night. Got the room at 4th floor and the aircon is broken (the temperature way too cold inside the room). Has informed to the reception and nothing much that they can do, they only gave us extra blankets without fixing the problem. Regardless the aircon problem, the room itself was clean and amenities is well equipped.

Was attending a football match at the National Stadium on 02/08/2023 and decided to book a hotel nearer to the stadium that was affordable. Tried looking into booking.com and this hotel popped up. Initially I hesitated to book knowing that it was at Geylang and nearly everyone would know what is famous in Geylang. But the reviews seemed reasonable so I booked. When I arrived, I noticed the room was nothing like in the photos of their website. And was way smaller. Our room had a queen size bed and noticed the pillow case had some stain. Toilet was ok but water was leaking from the ceiling where the door is. We just parked our bags and decided to go for lunch. As we were walking down the road, I noticed all the eyes that were staring at us and also noticed the area had a bad vibe. And later on when I read the reviews here instead of booking.com, I decided to move out from the hotel and this is when it became interesting. Met Mr Johnny the front desk staff and asked him that if I checked out early, would I be charged for both the nights as I booked the room for 2 nights for SGD300 but he told me that I would be charged for both the nights even though I moved out in one night. He showed me the policy and it clearly states that “Cancellation must be made within 2 days otherwise ONE NIGHT’s STAY will be levied as penalty”. Then why charge me for 2 nights? I don’t mind if they charge me for a night. He argued with me and told me to send an email to his manager Mr Rayson under the email address “hotel81@hotel81.com.sg” which can be found in their website as well but I got a “failure notice” stating that the email address doesn’t exist. So there goes my money. I feel so cheated and regretted booking this hotel

This hotel is used constantly around the clock by prostitutes. The noise we were subjected to was like something from a film. We sat on our bed and recorded the actual sounds we were hearing because nobody would believe us. Men coming and going every hour or so to rooms on our floor, sex all day and night with paper thin walls. I couldn’t believe how much we paid for this room. None of the reviews on Booking.Com mentioned this or I would not have booked. The rooms are much smaller than picture depicts and not cleaned very well. The toilet was clean though. We wish we stayed in a hostel in the city centre instead.

Hotel 81 Hollywood is part of a row of hotels along Lorong street. I checked in to a very serious-looking receptionist. He just asked for my payment and gave me my key. Although the older lady at the reception smiled at me, they did not offer to help me with my three bags. My room was small but very very clean. I got two single beds and a big tv. The bathroom was very modern and clean too but surprisingly, there was no bidet. The wifi password is conveniently placed on the tv and I automatically input the password on my phone and ipad. There is no included breakfast with my room and I did not ask if they have a restaurant in the hotel. The price of SG$100 was too high for this type of room, but since everything is more expensive in Singapore, this is the budget range. What I don’t like about this hotel is that some clients were very noisy at night that I had to put on headphones in order to sleep. I found out that this hotel is also near Singapore’s red district. I just wish the management at least notify the noisy clients that they are disturbing other people in the hotel.

Pros: - nice and clean room with hot/cold shower (our room was facing the soccer field and has a nice view of the open area) - near small restaurants and small groceries. - 24/7 reception - affordable price for couples (queen size double bed) - fast WiFi, double lock, big flat screen TV - have toiletries such as: tissue, toothbrush with small toothpaste and 2 in 1 shampoo/soap liquid - have small electric kettle with 2 water bottles, 2 instant coffee and 2 instant tea - have hair dryer, refrigerator, safe, 2 USB ports for charging and 2 3-pronged socket Cons: - the hotel is situated around the red light district - on the 3rd day there were small drain flies at the ceiling of the comfort room (well they just stayed on the ceiling just think of it as black paint splatter) - not much channel to choose from...most are Chinese channels.

The Hotel 81 chain in general is just a touch above the Hostels in Singapore (Some hostels are also better) They just exist. I booked them as I was attending the concerts in the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The rooms aren't the most clean, you wont find more than 10 functioning channels. Water can sometimes be extremely hot or extremely cold But if you have a concert or an event to attend, these are your best options as it is walking distance to MRT and the Stadium

We booked Hotel 81 a few nights before arrival, for a bargain price. We stayed for 4 night for just over £300. Upon arrival, were checked in promptly. The receptionist took a copy of our passports on arrival for security reasons, which is understandable. The staff were kind, friendly and helpful, so we had high expectations. The bedroom and bathroom were both very small, but spacious enough to not complain about. The room seemed clean, and air con was an added bonus. The night was incredibly restless. The cleaners were working until gone midnight (not entirely sure as to why, because our room was cleaned in the morning), there were children screaming, TV shows being played unnecessarily loud, and individuals having sex left right and centre. It was very difficult to sleep with all the bustle, the walls are strangely thin. We were then woken early the next morning by traffic and workmen outside the hotel. We didn’t spend much time in the hotel as we were exploring Singapore. Our room was cleaned at some point throughout the day, where the cleaners provided us with a new bottle of water each, clean towels (unnecessarily as we didn’t dirty the previous towels), and a new plastic toothbrush each (again, unnecessary considering Singapore are supposed to be ahead in the current plastic ‘crisis’ which is something I feel very strongly about). Everything seemed fine, until we got into bed and realised that the sheets that had been changed had brown stains on, right where we were sleeping. We complained to the hotel staff who said it would be sorted in the morning. We waited until very late into the night, but no one arrived to change the sheets, even after asking a second time and hearing the cleaners on our floor. We decided to just sleep on top of the sheets in the end (I assume no one came thag night, we didn’t hear a knock on the door). The noice was, again, quite unbearable, so it took us a while to fall to sleep. We had no significant problems for the rest of our stay; just the level of noise in the evenings and throughout the night. The morning of our departure, the hotel staff booked us a taxi to the airport, which was very helpful as our phones were on aeroplane mode. Check out was very simple. The location of the hotel is okay, it is close to many transport options (about 1km from train). We walked into marina bay and close most days which took about an hour. However, on the first night walking around the Geyleng area, I received many ‘looks’ from males, wearing shorts and a vest top. I didn’t mind so much as I’m perfectly able to keep my head up and ignore it, but the rest of my stay I tried to cover up a little more. I still received he same looks. On our way to the airport, our taxi driver explained to us that Geyleng is considered the ‘red light district’ of Singapore, which explains the loud sex and looks I received during our stay. I would not have stayed in the area if I’d have known this, as it is quite disconcerting. Also, on the website we booked this hotel through (maybe booking.com can’t remember) it stated there was a laundrette service provided by the hotel, but when we asked, the member of staff informed us that the nearest laundrette was about 1km away, which was a bit of a surprise. (After reading reviews of the nearby laundrette we decided to walk a bit further to one which had better reviews). Maybe take note of this if you are planning to stay for a while. Overall our stay was rather unpleasant, but was made easier by the lovely hotel staff on reception.
