I have stayed at the Viento Sur on various trips to Puerto Montt, starting in fall of 2004 and a couple of times early this year, in February and again in April. They have an excellent restaurant with a simple menu, wide variety of Chilean wines, and excellent vegetarian options, including salads, soups, and fresh pastas with vegetables. There is a pasta dish with tomato sauce and green and black olives which is excellent. Their bar also makes the best pisco sours in the city.
Breakfasts are included in the room rates. They set up a bar with fruit salad, fresh baked breakfast pastries, yogurt, and cereal, and they serve toast and cheese at the tables. Eggs are available upon request.
The rooms are very comfortable and impeccably clean, divided into two areas: the top floors are the older section of the original hotel, with a more historical feel to them. The bottom three floors are more modern rooms. Personally, I prefer the top part, and always request a room in...
