Rio Amazonas' location seems to be ideal but be very careful in this neighborhood--its called 'gringo landia' and hence, its a major crime against tourists area. Rio Amazonas has not beefed up its security detail--we were robbed 1/2 block from the hotel while 4 of us were walking back from dinner 3 blocks away. It was a brazen attack of ripping a money pouch off my 70 year old mother's neck. Inside the hotel, the staff did not seem to care--no one offered to help with ice or a first aid kit given she was injured. The staff could use some customer service training as well--they charged us for breakfast when the reservation states its included in the room. more
