We really enjoyed our stay here. Our room was big and comfortable. They have an amazing roof terrace with bar where they also serve evening meals - a great place to meet other travelers. The hostel itself is nice - quite rambling and lots of steps so not recommended if you have mobility problems. Excellent English speaking staff. Good security... More

The best part about Secret Garden is the rooftop with a great view of the city. That and the place is usually full of travellers from all over so it's a great place to meet people. The beds are quite comfortable too. But that's about the only positives I have for the place. The only working shower I could find... More

The hostel itself is nothing SO special, is in a not so safe area (at night), and staff is rather cold. BUT, whether it's the rooftop patio or fact that there's not much to do in the immediate area at night, everybody congregates upstairs and I had some amazing conversations and made some amazing friends. Hostel rooms and bathrooms are... More

The Secret Garden was the worst hostel we stayed in over three months throughout South America. We are both seasoned travellers and hostel-goers but never have we been somewhere where you get locked in your room at 10pm. The service was indifferent, a private room we paid extra for had no window and was at the bottom of a damp... More

Excellent views from the rooftop terrace and sociable (when people come up for air from their <insert digital device>). Breakfast is the standard options and good quality, dinner is just ok, drinks are cheap. The tour agency downstairs does free walking tours of the old town Mon - Fri. The hostel is kinda old and creaky. We stayed in room... More

I stayed at this hostel in October of 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my stay. The staff were super knowledgeable, friendly and the rooftop terrace where the amazing cuisine is prepared with great value and love of quality food, offers unparreled views of Quito for a hostel. Would definitely stay again and miss this place greatly!!

We went here on a recommendation and were not disappointed. The very friendly staff, the cleaning staff, quick laundry service and not to forget the roof top being a top place to be in all of town. Just great. The staff helped us with any inquiry we had and made our stay very enjoyable. Thanks for making us so welcome

Let's start at the airport--Secret Garden forgot to pick us up so we had to grab a taxi. Once my friend and I arrived we discovered that the reception desk is on the rooftop. Prepare yourself to climb up narrow stairs. We asked for a double-room with a private bathroom. We ended up getting a double-room with public bathroom. Meals... More

The Secret Garden was recommended to me by a 20 year-old college student who was spending her semester abroad in Ecuador. I should have known better, I should have known better. Loved this place. I stayed in 2 hostels in Quito, a week at each, and this was by far my favourite. Such a fantastic location. It's very clean - but it does smell of bleach everywhere. Great security. DELICIOUS food. WONDERFUL to have such healthy and great tasting food cooked with love every day. W O N D E R... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Secret Garden Quito is a friendly Australian/Ecuadorian/French family run hostel conveniently located in a quiet, authentic cobble-stone street in central Quito. Our 'barrio', or neighbourhood, is one of the few remaining Colonial districts and even our building is protected by a United Nations World Heritage listing. With a big improvement in security in the Old Town in recent years, plus 24 hour police patrols, our neighbourhood now enjoys a level of safety and security equal to (or often better than!!) most international capital cities. But there's more!!Our beautifully restored colonial building features a rooftop terrace/restaurant/bar with breathtaking views of the historical Old Town. Feel free to browse our hostal book exchange, chat with our friendly Ecuadorian and foreign staff, check your email (free use of computer and free Wifi), or just relax listening to any of our wide selection of music. ... more   less
