When first arriving in Tandayapa you will be amazed by the number of hummingbirds buzzing around the feeders, we counted over 10 different species. This place is built by birders for birders and that shows. Mealtimes can be arranged to fit with your birding times and there are birds all around. I stayed for 5 nights at this lodge as part of a birding tour operated by Tropical Birding, an Ecuadorian ecotourism company, one of whose owners also owns the Tandayapa Lodge. Wonderful experience. I am not a birder, but enjoyed this experience very much. In two days we saw 140 different species of birds. Our guides arranged for breakfast at 5 a.m. and we went full blast both days until sunset at 6 p.m. The guides were terrific. Pricey, but well woth the money. Food at lodge was wonderful. We just returned from 13 days in Ecuador where we went primarily to see the many fantastic birds there.
