We arranged the 3 day/2 night private birding package with Tandayapa Birding Lodge as part of a 23-day vacation throughout Ecuador. Reservations went smoothly and everything met our expectation of a remote, high altitude “cloud forest” experience. An expert bird guide and driver were provided from Tropical Birding (www.tropicalbirding.com). They were excellent! Over the three days, we saw 175 different... more

Since the road had washed out in a landslide, we had a long uphill hike with our luggage. Then, although Tandayapa is advertised as a lodge run by birders for birders, no one there on the staff knew anything about birds. Despite the fact that e-mails had referred to car trips to birding places, there was no car and no... more

When first arriving in Tandayapa you will be amazed by the number of hummingbirds buzzing around the feeders, we counted over 10 different species. Staff is very friendly, rooms are good, although not... more

It is an excellent location for those wanting to see cloudforest birds. It is spacious and the rooms are large and clean. A big shock for me was that... more

Wonderful experience. I am not a birder, but enjoyed this experience very much. In two days we saw 140 different species of birds. Our guides arranged for breakfast at 5 a.m. and we went full blast both days until sunset at 6 p.m. The guides were terrific. Pricey, but well woth the money. Food at lodge was wonderful. Lodge is... more

We just returned from 13 days in Ecuador where we went primarily to see the many fantastic birds there. We were a group of ten who knew each other and were joined by a guide and driver from Tropical Birding. They were excellent! I would like to particularly mention Tandayapa Bird Lodge which is set in the cloudforest and is... more
