Great valu place to stay in Arequipa. It is only a few blocks fom the Plaza de Armas and yet it is a place in which to rest & relax in the peace & quiet. Staff are very friendly and helpful; they provide excellent value outings (tours,Colca Canyon horse riding, rafting, climbing) and travel service (buses, flights); Spanish school on... more

Our family of 4 stayed here April 2009. The location is great, close enough to the square for convenience, but far eough out of the traffic, close to market. The rooms are quiet and clean, the showers are hot always. The value is great. The prize of the place is the interior garden for relaxation, peace and studying Spanish, all... more

The hostal is located within a 5-10 min walk to the main plaza. The rooms are clean and comfortable with cable TV included. We paid $22 for a private double (however they tried to charge a higher rate when we checked out - so be careful on this!) A basic breakfast is included with the option to purchase additionals such... more

Management response from

Yes, Arequipa can turn a little cold at night. The lowest historical temperature in the last 4 years is 9 degrees C. (48 F) celsius with an average of 12 degrees (53F) . Seems colder because sun shines all day, all year long except February. Extra blankets are available for free, and we have heater equipments to rent at your...

We stayed at the CasaDeAvila in July 2008 and had a lovely stay there. Amando the owner and his staff go out of their way to help and always have a smile on their faces. We loved the breakfast and central garden too.The rooms are simple and clean but ,like most reasonably priced hotels, has no heating and nights can be chilly.... more

This hotel/hostal was nice and basic. The beds were pretty comfortable (keep in mind we are only paying $25.00 a night!), very clean, and plenty of hot water (although you had to let the water run for about 5 minutes to come through) The location was also fairly good, easy 15 minute walk to the Plaza, Santa Catalina Monastery ect.... more

The service at this hostel is top notch. Armando, the owner, is very attentive to his guest needs. My wife and I needed to make hotel reservations in La Merced (Junin province). Armando booked our hotel for us in La Merced, booked our bus from Lima to La Merced, and arranged for a taxi to meet us at the Lima... more

We stayed here for a few days in September 2007, and it has been one of our favourite places on our South American travels so far. We paid 70 soles for a double room with private bathroom, and both rooms (we came back here after a short trip to the Colca Canyon) were lovely. The best bit about Casa de... more
