I was in Peru the summer of 2007 (right before the earthquake hit) on a mission trip. After about 2 weeks of ministry work in Pucallpa, we headed to the Hacienda San Jose for some relaxation and fun. This is a converted plantation with quite a history. There are tours available of on grounds catacombs, "torture room" for wayward slaves, and a church. The staff will also help you arrange tours for sandboarding (wheee!) and boat rides, etc. The rooms are enormous and it is well suited to a group setting (our room slept 7 girls in it). The food is absolutely fantastic and the staff is very friendly and accomodating. We were there during the week and were going to miss the Afro-Peruvian show, so we asked the management if we could (for a price) get to see the show. They rounded up all the players and we had the show the next night! It is not to be missed! Overall a great trip due mostly to the hospitality of the staff. Highly recommended. more
