I was in Peru the summer of 2007 (right before the earthquake hit) on a mission trip. After about 2 weeks of ministry work in Pucallpa, we headed to the Hacienda San Jose for some relaxation and fun. This is a converted plantation with quite a history. There are tours available of on grounds catacombs, "torture room" for wayward slaves, and a church. The staff will also help you arrange tours for sandboarding (wheee!) and boat rides, etc. The rooms are enormous and it is well suited to a group setting (our room slept 7 girls in it). The food is absolutely fantastic and the staff is very friendly and accomodating. We were there during the week and were going to miss the Afro-Peruvian show, so we asked the management if we could (for a price) get to see the show. They rounded up all the players and we had the show the next night! It is not to be missed! Overall a great trip due mostly to the hospitality of the staff. Highly recommended. more

The Hacienda itself was amazing. The place which comes with its own small church transports you back in time. The staff were great and there were many outings available to the guests. We were lucky enough to be there during their Afro-Peruvian dance shows. The food at the Hacienda was great. The rooms are clean and spacious but dated which kind of was alright in that they keep to the character of the place. This is a great hotel if you want to relax and enjoy an... more
