Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a memorable time enjoying drinks and chitchatting in the evening when there was nothing else to do. Recommend for travellers to experience the stay here for local authentic feeling. Very friendly environment and beautiful view.

We accidentally arrive a day before our reservation around 8. The couple that run up quickly made up our rooms which were nice. However, outside our room there was loud music and people talking. As promised the music was turned down at 9:30 and I slept fine with ear plugs. Breakfast was fresh Made juice and they cooked the eggs while we watched ( you eat in a large nice kitchen area or a courtyard). Before we left they showed us a roof top terrace with great views of the city and ruins. Overall - great hospitality, clean nice rooms, but noisy.

All I will say is that the man who runs the place was very inappropriate with my friend and I on separate occasions, almost immediately to arriving. He even grabbed us inappropriately! When we slept, we locked the door and put a chair in front of it because we didn't trust him. Looking back, we should have just left altogether and asked for our money back. I wouldn't stay there at all if you are a woman, or if you support this kind of behavior. He also suggested one of the most expensive places in the town to eat, I think he must get kickbacks because he gave us a card with a drink coupon and his name on it. When we specifically asked for something cheap, we were on a budget and didn't want to go to the most expensive place in the square. We later truly realized this when we stayed at a different hostel and the people were actually helpful in finding a few restaurants that had amazing food and a great price. I was planning on returning to the hostel to stay on my way back from Machu Picchu, but this experience made me find a much better place where the owners were respectful and helpful. Also, the wifi never worked if you are interested in that.

I recently stayed at Sumac Chaska Hostal, both before and after visiting Machu Picchu. The owner was super nice and helped me with questions before my stay and during my stay. I originally booked a dorm room, but then the price for my own room was only a small bit more, so I had a room to myself. The hot water worked fine and breakfast was free (bread, coffee, jam). The owner helped me book the bus up to Aguas Calientes, as there was a problem with the train that day.

The couple who runs Sumac Chaska goes out of their way to accommodate you. I can't tell you how many questions I asked about getting to Machu Picchu after being told wrong information earlier. The hostel beds are EXTREMELY comfortable. Plenty of sheets that were obviously just cleaned. They showed me to my room and brought me to the roof to show me the view which again was incredible. After all of this they recommended some places to eat and even said some gave them free drinks when you mentioned that you were staying there. Right before I went to sleep the power went out in the city. After waking up part of the city was still without power. The owner walked me to her other property just to let me charge my phone... If that's not going out of your way I don't know what is. If I'm ever back here I'll be sure to say. PS if I were really to have a negative its that the bathroom sink has low water pressure and little light... Seriously that's it haha

Sumac Chaska is fantastic! Marie is the best host and knows everything about the area! Everything is very clean and comfortable. I stayed there while leading a group of high school students, and Marie was superbly accommodating and helpful: from calling a doctor for a house call for a student to walking with me to the market to secretly find fireworks for a 4th of July celebration for our american students. Sumac Chaska is on a nice, quiet, cobblestone street, but is only a few minutes walk from the main square of Ollantaytambo as well as the hiking path up to the fortress and monastery ruins at the edge of town. I definitely recommend this place to anyone!

The rooms decor felt hip and homey. I am a vegan and the owners were very accommodating with my dietary needs. It was a plus that their breakfast was more than just bread and jam. The owner's are also knowledgeable about Ollantaytambo.

A friend and I stayed in a 5bed dorm. The rooms are beautiful and clean w comfortable beds and the property has nice views. That is where the positive ends. The man who helped us at check in acted like putting luggage in storage for the afternoon was a hassle (no lockers here)...I had to argue and explain the necessity. At one point during our hike I wanted to get my coat but I was so uncomfortable w the interaction I decided to bear the wind versus talking w that man again! It also took him more than 15 minutes to get us change so we left to hike and got our change upon return. There was another instance where i went to ask for Wifi password and nobody was at desk so I found it myself behind the desk(i did ring bell and wait 5 min). In regards to female shower, it is electric heated so it goes from freezing to warm to hot to freezing again...typical in S.America. What is NOT typical is that if you touch the normal water handle (i Never touch the electrical part!) You will get a little shock! Not a good surprise. Breakfast was nice and standard for Peruvian hostal...however I would avoid this place. It is beautiful and I can forgive shower issues bc its Peru aftr all...but the vibes and way we were treated made us feel weird and uncomfortable. I put personality above everything sooo...avoid!

I stayed with my wife two days in Sumac Cashka hostal. The location was great since we booked the train to Aguas Calientes from Ollantaytambo train station very early. Walking from the hostal to the train station was 10 minutes but we took the moto-taxi which cost 4 soles. The room was fine but the lighting of the room was poor. There was no internet in the room and even in the counter was extremely slow compared to the internet available at any restaurant at the main plaza. There is no AC in the room but it was pretty cold. The breakfast include: bread, jelly and fried eggs. Coffee and tea available. Ollantaytambo is a small town but there are plenty of things to do.

My group of students and I stayed at the Sumac Chaska Hostal for one night in July during the middle of our two week trip to the Cusco region of Peru. Marie, the hostal co-owner/manager, is such a pleasure! She made sure we were all fed well, comfortable, and that all of our needs were met. This included helping us find fireworks for our students as it was the 4th of July in the US, and doing all of our laundry (with a dryer!) for a fantastic price. The beds were by far the most comfortable of all of our trip. Food was also great!
