The hotel is old and decadent. We spent New Years Eve 2005 and several days thereafter at the Royal Tahitien and we loved it. We then returned for a couple of days, at the end of our holiday, after we had been island hopping. Visited Tahiti 31 Aug thru 5 Sep, had picked the Hotel Royal Tahitien as our base and was not disappointed (web site pictures are quite accurate). This hotel is nothing like it looks on the web. It was way out of town and rather tired looking and slightly shabby. It is way out of town on the wrong side and public transport access to the city ends very early.
