Not that you will have a choice. If you are in Pyongyang, you will most likely be on a tour, in which case you will be put in either the Koryo Hotel or in Yanggakdo Hotel. There are really no complaints. The hotel is huge and there were very few guests when we were there. The restaurant serves a good... more

It’s not as though you will be given a choice of hotels when you visit P'yŏngyang — you’ll almost certainly be either in this hotel on an island in the river, or in the Koryo Hotel, which is in the city centre near the main railway station. The first time I stayed in P'yŏngyang, in November 1996, I was in... more

Nothing much to add. The bar in the basement (billiard room) can be friendly, if you are lucky. We stayed in the hotel twice, at the start of our trip, and at the end. If we wanted to leave luggage while we went around North Korea, they were going to charge us something like 5 Euro (maybe even per day).... more

I've stayed in both of the hotels that foreigners are likely to use in Pyongyang, the Koryo, which is downtown and the Yanggakdo, which is on an island in the river. There's not much between the two, though I would give a little plus to the Yanggakdo. Don't expect a real 5-star, it's nearer the equivalent of a 3-star, but... more

The property was much better than we had expected. Rooms are very basic and aren't particularly comfortable but they aren't uncomfortable and offer good views of the city. You likely won't have a choice but you will have: - hot water - decent food - good views of the city more

It's not the Ritz Carlton, but it was OK. The room was clean, the bed was a bit on the hard side, they had the BBC on t.v. most of the time. It's on an isolated island, so you can't just take a walk into Pyongyang. They will stop you at the property line. The restaurant food was acceptable. The... more

Not too much to add to what others have said. Relatively clean, late 80’s style room. Bathrooms not bad but the towels are incredibly thin and small. Great views if you get a room on one of the higher floors. Breakfast was ok, fried egg, toast, tea, yoghurt. Staff very pleasant and friendly. It is odd though staying in a... more

Currently as a tourist visiting North Korea, you will stay at one of two hotels in Pyongyang: the Yanggakdo Hotel, or the Koryo Hotel. When our tour went in the fall of 2007 we were put up at the Yanggakdo. Don't go to the DPRK wishing for a posh hotel with top-end amenities and fabulous service, because they aren't there... more

The hotel is ok, clean, but a little run down. They could use new furniture. Everything was working fine, electricity was always available, same as hot water. Dinner in the restaurant on the ground floor was good, breakfast was very limited and edible, but not more. more
