Sarajevo is chock-a-block with hostels...most of them are awful, especially the ones on main arteries where traffic pollution is a real hazard. There are also dozens of shills trying to book you a room, or, on the other hand, posh hotels for business travellers using taxpayers' money. If you want good, clean, no frills accommodation, though, it's hard to beat the Lion, located right in the heart of Bascarsija, the old Turkish quarter of Sarajevo. It's family-owned and run and they will help you find your way in Sarajevo with advice on everything from fitness clubs to restaurants to avoiding taxi gouging. A single room booked through booking.com goes for 25 Euros and if you double up it's cheaper. The shared bathrooms are large and generally well maintained. No breakfast (which I tend to prefer). I've visited Lion three times and it's lived up to my expectations each time. more
