A bit if history first: John Wayne used to own this island many years ago. The island served as his getaway, but it is now owned by an Austrian gentleman who has created a "John Wayne" world in the middle of nowhere.
Okay, this place was just wacky. We drove through a small fishing village in Panama to get to the boat dock. The fishing village was simply beautiful, white sands, palm trees, empty beaches, etc.... and we thought, wow, this is just the jump off point! So we took the 10 minute boat ride to Isla Taborcillo (aka John Wayne Island). We could see similar paradise views, white sands, trees, empty beaches. We stepped off the boat and were greeted by a friendly staff who were wearing dark, long-sleeved flannel shirts, neck ties, blue jeans, and cowboy hats. These were the people who we would see everyday, all day, for the next two days, working at a feverish pace, despite the fact their uniform is more appropriate for a winter resort, not a 100...
