The hotel is located on the main street of this historic town. The current owner took control in December 2008 and has worked to restore it to its former glory. Breakfast is a buffet served in the restaurant with hot dishes tes and coffee being provided by the friendly waitress staff.Dinner is a silver service 3 course set menu cooked... more

The new owner has invested a lot of money in the hotel (and is continuing to do so) and this shows in the furnishings of the public rooms and the new beds and furniture in the bedrooms. The team are dedicated to making this a high quality hotel and it shows in their care and service given to guests. The... more

I have to be upfront and state that I did not actually stay at the Consulate Hotel during our visit to St Helena (1st – 9th August 2009). Instead we opted for homestay at Harris’ Guest House, just down the street from the Consulate. As a family we were well looked after at Harris’ and I can recommend the home... more

Under new ownership since December 2008. All previous comments are obsolete. New owner making great strides, despite continuing obstacles, to make this a first class holiday hideaway. Comfortable rooms both private and public, excellent food (not a wide choice but making the best of available ingredients) well prepared and presented by a staff endeavouring to please. Hope to return and... more

No more discos. Bar closes promptly and we only heard some noise (in street outside) on Friday/Saturday. Front room in which we stayed was light ,airy and spacious. Furniture already upgraded and more in the pipeline (or 'containerline' to be more accurate). Floor standing fan was quite sufficient. Dinner WAS a fixed menu but the chef provided interesting and good... more

Stayed at the Consulate and regretted every moment. Granted, the hotel is in a great position, but it is noisy . The bar is very grim and seems to attract a young crown all wanting to play pool and play the juke box. Rooms are sparse and the besds have seen better days! Shower curtain was filthy. Food was poor.... more

If you're interested in music, then you'd realise that the name of the review is a pun on the British Sea Power song "Victorian Ice" and also to correct the other guy who wrote a review on this place, as the hotel is of the georgian period. For such a small place that Saint Helena is, this hotel is very... more

This the place to stay if you want to be in Jamestown itself. The supply-issues for the island affect the hotel too of course - but the staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are simply furnished and have en suite facilities, and fans (but no air-con, and it can be very hot!). Best not to be too near the... more
