I travel to Guatemala a lot, and first discovered Posada Don Diego in 2006. Now anytime I go to Antigua, be it for 2 nights or 2 months, I stay in Posada Don Diego. The small hotel is located right across the street from La Merced church, a few blocks away from the central park--meaning it is quiet but close to everything. There is a nice cafe in front serving coffee, fruit smoothies, crepes, breakfast and lunch. There is a computer so you can check your email right in the hotel. The rooms are always spotless, and surround a small courtyard with lots of flowers and other plants. There are also a couple of sitting areas around the courtyard, and there is a small common room with comfy counches and cable TV (although a couple of the hotel rooms also have cable tv). The owner's dog, Jack, is a special treat and is super friendly. And the owner, Carlos, and his staff are all super friendly and helpful with whatever travel advice you need.
