We also were in the unit separate from the house. Large bedroom, with a/c (didn't use), 3 or 4 steps down from the kitchen. Are you looking for a really nice place to stay in Dubrovnik, Croatia, then check out Apartments Kalaš. It is 1½ minuts walk from Old Town and the same from the town beach. 20 min. walk away is an even nicer beach. The apartments are good standard and the (sea)view is wonderful.
