This is a fascinating place. I described it as 'atmospheric' my friend used the words in the title. It's a crumbling old colonial-style royal residence on the edge of town. They currently have less than 10 rooms, so it's friendly and cozy, but I think they're adding another building with something like 20 more. So I expect it will be... more

We first saw this hotel next to "The Apsara" in the "HIP HOTELS: ORIENT" book, the second hotel in Luang Prabang features there. We chose to stay there and have been surprised. We liked it more than the Apsara. The hotel is like a museum where you can live and sleep, the staff is very friendly and you wouldn't expect... more

I would agree with all of the above posts. It's not going to be the nicest place you'll stay, but it did have a certain "quaintness" about it. Now, the strange part. We tried to find hotel personal the night before we checked out to settle any bills/questions, etc. We had gone to the night market, but were back at... more

A beautiful old house nestled in a miniature tropical forest, furnished with antiques. It's a short walk from the town center, which makes it blissfully quiet without being too far out. The swimming pool is a unique and much appreciated feature. Breakfast is exceptionally good. The owners speak both english and french. Well worth the stay. more

After having read some less than appealing reviews on tripadvisor I considered cancelling my reservation - yet I am so glad I didn't. I stayed in Satri House together with my 2 children (12 and 14) for 10 days and we really loved it. Yes, it is a bit run down, but that, together with the beautiful colours and ecclectic... more

I spent 5 days last Christmas at the Satri House and for me it was a great experience. I guess it could look to some people old and run-down but for me this was the beauty of the place. No, it is not the perfectly renovated colonial villa that almost looks like a wedding cake; no, it does not have... more

We booked this hotel after a glowing review in Hip Hotels Orient. Airport pick-up was efficient. We arrived at night, and shown to our dimly-lit room. The room was small and, while the furnishings / decor certainly had the overall appearance of 'shabby chic', on closer inspection were mostly just shabby. A dusty old mosquito net draped the bed (which... more

Just an unbelievably overpriced hotel - basically a dark, dingy and run-down bed and breakfast with generic dark wood Asian furnishings. The service was polite but not particularly friendly. The breakfast by the pool was pleasant enough but as an earlier review said, the silk tablecloths were not cleaned during our stay. The room was SO dark that we could... more

Stayed at the Satri House for one night and was very happy to leave. Yes, it is extremely charming, like staying at someone's home. There are beautiful little details everywhere. But it is so dark and musty, did not feel very clean. There was the hugest spider in our room, we never felt comfortable after seeing it. Was afraid of... more

Photos on the internet look great - booked the place for 5 nights. Was looking forward to reading a book by the pool, but the weather worn material and wood on the lounge chairs were less than inviting. The mangy chair cushions and table clothes at the breakfast tables were only acceptable as we had checked out the of the... more
