We booked at Satri House last minute, under the understanding that the building work had completed as advertised in November - an approx 50% discount had been offered whilst this was underway. HOWEVER - and this is not mentioned anywhere - the building work is now due for completion in February 2010. When we pointed this out, the discount was... more

Darn it. As hard as I try to be Hip, it just doesn't seem to happen. I'm doomed to be just another tourist that wants a clean bathroom, sheets without poop on them and walls where you can't see from inside to the outside. And for these simple things, I'm willing to give the owner of the place my money.... more

Thank you for your valuable comments which you posted on August 23, 2009. Although the comment is posted a year and a half after your visit in January 2008. I would like to kindly inform you that Satri house has been renovated during the year 2008 and enlarged with the addition of six more colonial style buildings consisting of 25...

This is a fascinating place. I described it as 'atmospheric' my friend used the words in the title. It's a crumbling old colonial-style royal residence on the edge of town. They currently have less than 10 rooms, so it's friendly and cozy, but I think they're adding another building with something like 20 more. So I expect it will be... more

We first saw this hotel next to "The Apsara" in the "HIP HOTELS: ORIENT" book, the second hotel in Luang Prabang features there. We chose to stay there and have been surprised. We liked it more than the Apsara. The hotel is like a museum where you can live and sleep, the staff is very friendly and you wouldn't expect... more

I would agree with all of the above posts. It's not going to be the nicest place you'll stay, but it did have a certain "quaintness" about it. Now, the strange part. We tried to find hotel personal the night before we checked out to settle any bills/questions, etc. We had gone to the night market, but were back at... more

A beautiful old house nestled in a miniature tropical forest, furnished with antiques. It's a short walk from the town center, which makes it blissfully quiet without being too far out. The swimming pool is a unique and much appreciated feature. Breakfast is exceptionally good. The owners speak both english and french. Well worth the stay. more

After having read some less than appealing reviews on tripadvisor I considered cancelling my reservation - yet I am so glad I didn't. I stayed in Satri House together with my 2 children (12 and 14) for 10 days and we really loved it. Yes, it is a bit run down, but that, together with the beautiful colours and ecclectic... more

I spent 5 days last Christmas at the Satri House and for me it was a great experience. I guess it could look to some people old and run-down but for me this was the beauty of the place. No, it is not the perfectly renovated colonial villa that almost looks like a wedding cake; no, it does not have... more

We booked this hotel after a glowing review in Hip Hotels Orient. Airport pick-up was efficient. We arrived at night, and shown to our dimly-lit room. The room was small and, while the furnishings / decor certainly had the overall appearance of 'shabby chic', on closer inspection were mostly just shabby. A dusty old mosquito net draped the bed (which... more

Just an unbelievably overpriced hotel - basically a dark, dingy and run-down bed and breakfast with generic dark wood Asian furnishings. The service was polite but not particularly friendly. The breakfast by the pool was pleasant enough but as an earlier review said, the silk tablecloths were not cleaned during our stay. The room was SO dark that we could... more
