I think this comment from another reviewer bears repeating: 'Tourists can stay at the Sheraton. Explorers must stay at Baron's Hotel.' Some people just don't belong at the Baron and should steer clear. Better yet, go back to Dubai where you'll be right at home. more

Tourists can stay at the Sheraton. Explorers must stay at Baron's Hotel. Ignore anyone who complains it is old, or dusty, or a little bit shambolic - that's the point. A century's-worth of famous names in the guest book and an interior last smartened up around 1950 all add to the atmosphere. The airconditioning in the rooms works, the beds... more

We arrived at the Baron late one unusually hot night in April in unexpected style - our sleeper train from Constantinople had been delayed at the Syrian border for some six hours and we had been worried that we would have difficulty finding the hotel, and even keeping our rooms (note to all potential travellers to Syria, especially American trustafarians... more

The 1909-opened Baron Hotel is the most famous hotel in Aleppo and was once on of the most famoius hotels anywhere in the Middle East. Today, you can stay where Agatha Christie, T E Lawrence (of Arabia), Roosevelt and Attaturk (father of modern Turkey) stayed for just $60 a night or thereabouts. An absolute bargain, and it's deservedly a traveller's... more

Apart from the history (which can be fully enjoyed and viewed from visiting the bar in hotel lobby), staying as a guest in this hotel should be avoided at all costs. Dangerous electrical wiring and suspicious smells its a wonder this building is still standing and not burnt down. Breakfast is a joke. The condition of the decor and the... more

I have stayed at this hotel three times - 2000 and twice during my last trip with my wife. Good news first: the hotel is famous for the guests who stayed there many years ago - everyone wants to stay in the Agatha Christie room. Yes it is historic and has the , now faded, trappings of a bygone age.... more

As many of the previous entries have mentioned, Hotel Baron is a unique historical hotel located conveniently in the heart of Aleppo. Room rates are not cheap, but certainly not expensive and reasonable value for money. Rooms are ok, but airconditioning can be noisy. The major downside to the Baron Hotel is the poor service. You can get most things... more

I have stayed at many hostels around the world that are better than the Baron Hotel. The rooms were overpriced for the condition of the hotel. The rooms were shabby, the paint was peeling off the walls, there was little to no water in our room and the corridor upstairs was used as a storage facility of broken chairs and... more

stayed at the baron for 2 nights paying about £40 a night for a large if slightly shabby room.all the rooms have now been renovated, but it still retains that slightly shabby, run down feeling. we had a room at the back which was quieter but some would still find it pretty noisy due to the syrians love of the car... more
