the hotel is jaded a,dark and grossly overrated-the other boutique hotels we stayed in syria including the talisman and beit zaman in damascus were v good. the owners are arrogant and rigid-they do not know the hospitality business- never stay there- we moved to the mansouriya palace- fantasic- and the wakil guys charged us for the full trip-ridiculous. more

While being a beautiful building and located in a nice, lively neighborhood not too far from the old city, the Beit Wakil gives poor value for money. The high quality of fittings and materials used has worn off a little bit with time, but most importantly the configuration of most rooms around a central courtyard makes for zero privacy and... more

The first old building to be converted to a hotel in Aleppo. The friendly owner, Habib, leases the building from a church which used it as an orphanage. Habib was educated as an architect in Greece, and has achieved classic simplicity in the renovation. I'v stayed a couple of times when inAleppo on business. Some of the rooms are small,... more

The setting, in the old city of Aleppo and the building itself, a former old house and extension, are excellent and memorable. The ordinary people of Syria are warm and welcoming though those on the tourist trail are money-grabbing. Have a look at the webite for some great pictures - but they don't show the rooms which are small -... more

Travellers to Aleppo you have many better options than Beit Wakil and others have commented on it in detail. I have 3 points i like to make re the Restaurant: -Food poisoning - we had a problem ourself but then its difficult to trace it back to Beit Wakil, i could be wrong, but certainly Beit Wakil was involved the... more

I stayed at Beit Wakil for 2 nights and all was going well except that the suspicious looking buffet breakfast ended up giving me the worst case of food poisoning I'd ever experienced. The last meal I had before going back to Damascus was some tomato and cucumber from their kitchen and a few hours later I started getting stomach... more

As many other reviewers have stated the hotel is in an excellent location in the Armenian quarter of Aleppo. This alone adds a lot of the charm. The building itself is fascinating and evocative with domes, courtyards, mosaics and stucco work. Again it is worth staying for this. Our room was in the bridge crossing the Sissi alley (number 30... more

We stayed at this hotel three years ago and found it charming. This time it was very empty and felt like a ghost ship - the breakfast they laid out was sparse. Also this time we found the room somewhat dark and poky, and the aircon didn't work properly. As others have probably said it is a converted khan which... more

I agree that the Beit Wakil has character. The central courtyard is charming. But you don't sleep in the courtyard. Other group members' rooms were cramped but ours was immense - about 18 feet high! It required an industrial sized aircon unit to cope with the universe of air to be conditioned. And it had one (actually it had two-... more

I stayed here with a tour group in June and was very disappointed by the standard of room furnishings and fixtures considering the beauty of the courtyard and fountain area. It is obvious that a lot of thought went into this area but stopped there. The reception staff try hard but the problem is the management. You get the feeling... more
