While the Beit Wakil has lovely public areas - courtyard, lobby, restaurant - and a good location in Al Jdaidah, be sure to inspect your room carefully before you accept it. The guest rooms and en suite bathrooms are desperately in need of renovation. All 3 of our rooms were small and poorly lit, furnished with single beds with hard... more

My friend and I stayed at the Beit Wakil for four nights. The location is superb (slap bang in the middle of the old part of Aleppo) and the wonderful plant be-decked courtyards a sight to behold. However, being one of the very first boutique hotels in Aleppo, it is a tad run-down and in need of a face lift... more

This is a very nice hotel that has been allowed to be run down. It is a fascinating old house with wonderful character and feeling. Has free WiFi too. Many drawbacks, rooms are dark and ours had only had single beds (3) with hard and uncomfortable mattress, breakfast was basic, bathroom was tiny and old. We did not eat on... more

Our room was gorgeous, spacious with a sparse elegance. We stayed in a suite with 18 ft ceilings and beautiful windows looking over a quiet courtyard. We had breakfast at the hotel where we were brought everything we asked for, and waited on attentively. Located in a great neighborhood in Aleppo on a quiet street. If you want the Sheraton,... more

Dear Readers, if you got attracted by the hotel's history and charm as an ancient building worth visiting. I can honestly tell you that you could find in the same neighbourhood much better attractive hotels that are decent for 20th century human being to live in. Like Dar Zamaria Martini Hotel. Nothing in this hotel worth you spending even 1... more

the hotel is jaded a,dark and grossly overrated-the other boutique hotels we stayed in syria including the talisman and beit zaman in damascus were v good. the owners are arrogant and rigid-they do not know the hospitality business- never stay there- we moved to the mansouriya palace- fantasic- and the wakil guys charged us for the full trip-ridiculous. more

While being a beautiful building and located in a nice, lively neighborhood not too far from the old city, the Beit Wakil gives poor value for money. The high quality of fittings and materials used has worn off a little bit with time, but most importantly the configuration of most rooms around a central courtyard makes for zero privacy and... more

The first old building to be converted to a hotel in Aleppo. The friendly owner, Habib, leases the building from a church which used it as an orphanage. Habib was educated as an architect in Greece, and has achieved classic simplicity in the renovation. I'v stayed a couple of times when inAleppo on business. Some of the rooms are small,... more

The setting, in the old city of Aleppo and the building itself, a former old house and extension, are excellent and memorable. The ordinary people of Syria are warm and welcoming though those on the tourist trail are money-grabbing. Have a look at the webite for some great pictures - but they don't show the rooms which are small -... more

I have 3 points i like to make re the Restaurant: -Food poisoning - we had a problem ourself but then its difficult to trace it back to Beit Wakil, i could be wrong, but certainly Beit Wakil was involved the... more
