To the North West of St.Wolfgang a lane (cul de sac) runs along the lake for a couple of miles. This is Ried, a hamlet, although in a different province to St Wolfgang really considered part of it.
Along here are a number of lakeside hotels (mainly 3 star) and restaurants. Hotel/Gästehaus Buchinger has one of the better positions, as can be seen from the photo’s. It is immaculately clean, our room was in excellent decorative order with good solid, rather than ornate, furniture. Friendly owners. The breakfast room was classic Austrian style, and well presented. Breakfast was a cold buffet, including rolls/breads, jams/cheeses/cold meats plus yogurt and fruit.
At €36 to 42 p.p.p.n. it is less than half the price of local 4 star hotels, and at this point should be heading for top points plus an outstanding value award.
