Having checked out of our original hotel, the too-stodgy Day Inn, we needed new accommodations pronto. So, we checked our Travel Fish print out sheet and came up with what it called an “immaculately clean” if low-priced place in the heart of the city called Molly Malone’s. The ground floor of the place is an Irish pub and, since a room wouldn’t be available until afternoon, we chose to check in, leave our luggage at the desk and deal with it later.
Knowing nothing about the city or how to get around it (that’s how we roll… ) we asked the desk clerk, a young Cambodian woman with limited English, if she could recommend a driver. She contacted a tuk-tuk owner operator named Tola who turned out to be the greatest asset of our entire 25 day trip into SE Asia! Trip Advisor has a fully understandable policy against publishing the contact information for tips like this, but it is actually worth it for you to stop by Molly Malone’s and ask the clerk about Tola.
