We stayed at the Super 8 hotel on several occasions over the period of a week. We found out about the hotel on Trip Advisor, and although there were no reviews, we have had really good luck staying in chain hotels in China and decided to give this a try. We have since found out that it is also listed in the new (May 2009) Lonely Planet guidebook under the Chinese name of Suba.
The location was good, near minimarkets, parks, and the bus depot for buses to Tian Chi lake. It is about 5-10 minutes walk to the north entrance of Peoples Park, where the buses park. Plenty of good restaurants around.
The budget king rooms are tiny, but for a few extra RMB you can get into a somewhat bigger room if desired. The room was clean, bright, modern, and well-maintained. Although the room was tiny, the bathroom was of decent size and had an enclosed shower. And blissfully, the 7th floor is non-smoking, so the room was fresh and clean smelling, without the reek of cigarette...
