At the heart of ancient Fort Cochin, Kerala, a place that exudes history and culture, is the 'Old Harbour Hotel'. A 300 year- old building that has for long been a heritage monument of this town, now reopened as a boutique hotel. Built in the Dutch style of architecture with hints of Portuguese influences, it was the first hotel of old Cochin. Later it remained a residential home to employees of English Tea broking firms until it was left unused for a period of time. more » « less

This hotel is beautifully located overlooking a park that looks out onto the water where you can watch the old chinese fishing nets being worked. The hotel is 17th century and has the old feel about it. It has been renovated with great care so that the feeling of an old space mixes with the simplicity of a modern one.... more

Wow, this is a great place, such a calm approach to checking in following our flight. Room really well thought out with some nice little touches. Stayed for two nights but wished for more. This hotel was a real find. Old Portugeese architecture, full of character and charm. Beautiful gardens, tranquil swimming pool, friendly staff, good food. It was the first stop on our honeymoon, and was a real treat. more

I first stayed here in February 08 and loved it (and India) so much, i came back 2 months later with more friends. The decor is effortlessly stylish and maintains the traditional character of the building and grounds with every detail having been carefully considered, from the stunning granite pool to the art dotted around the rooms. The staff are... more

We took a three week trip to India in November 2007, starting in Delhi and working our way through the country and eventually landed at the airport in Cochin. The trip from the airport was soooo long - especially on the end of all of our travels - when we finally made it to the entrance of The Old Harbour... more

From the moment we arrived and were invited to sit and sip cool coconut milk it was a hit. Large cool exquisite rooms, beautifully furnished with all mod cons despite the charm of the restoration. The evenings provided live music and excellent food in the garden area which by day housed the reasonably sized pool and shady trees. Close to... more

Stayed 2 nights March 2008, in the Tower Room which was quite spacious also had a Garden View and over the wall you could see the Chinese Fishing Nets. Hotel has a great location and for further exploration there are plenty of auto rickshaws outside, it also has a very welcoming decent sized pool given the number of rooms the... more

A refined and subtle decoration that reflects the expert tastes of Edgar, the owner of the place. A peaceful place in the very heart of Fort Cochin, with a garden and a beautiful swimmingpool so enjoyable! I was so lucky since I stayed in one of the Suite upstairs: beautiful volumes, perfect decoration with every detail being checked, and a... more

Wonderful 2 nights spent here with large airy well conditioned room. Minimalist but colonial elegance and felt like a friendly home. Staff attentive and every where spotless. Birds around the pool noisy and could be a menace but added to the character.Great location for visisting Cochin and so close to the Chinese nets. A sanctuary and a great place to... more

The hotel has a great location, and is well appointed with an excellent restaurant. However, it is expensive for the area, and the lack of any ability to serve wine or beer does mean that the meals are less enjoyable. Staff helpful and there is a communal tip system which makes life easier. more
