If you are used to 5-star hotels in Jakarta and are looking for "Western" food and style, expect this one to be a bit short of the mark - but still very acceptable, and much more affordable at US$100 or thereabouts. Breakfast buffet is okay, fruit not quite as good quality as I've had elsewhere. The rooms are great, comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, good selection of TV channels in various languages. Swimming pool is a bit small, and lounging a bit uncomfortable and noisy because the main street is just over the wall, unseen but definitely heard.
Make sure you get the sea view rooms, the hotel is right on the street that runs along the shore and the scenery and collection of ships waiting outside the harbour looks great. If you've done any research on Makassar you don't come for the beach life though - there is none to be had along the waterfront. But DO try to get to the old harbour, where you can see the wooden cargo boats being loaded.
