This place is a convenient starting point for a trip as it is close to the airport in Arusha. The place seems older than some but it is clean, the rooms are comfortable. the food is of high quality, great chicken and fabulous chocolate ice cream come to mind. The gardens are lush and tropical with a stream running through it, the rooms have balconies, mine over looked the garden.

So this is a tricky one... The lodge itself is quite pleasant. A nice oasis in the city of Arusha. The people are very nice and friendly. The rooms are not too bad. Well what is the problem then? If you are just staying one night you have nothing to fear especially if you leave early. But we spent 3 nights there and it was kind of a nightmare. The noise was so annoying because of the church just next to the lodge. Very noisy very long and very frequent. It seems like the problem is well known by the agencies because we were the only clients for the most of our stay. That makes the problem even worse because less personnel and things are going down. Like the souvenir shop that is a souvenir itself. The massage room that is just an abandoned house. The rooms not very clean because not used or just by the dust. It is difficult to rate this place because it's situation is very complicated. We spoke a lot about it with the manager and the other employees but they can't do much about it. So to resume I would say that is a good place to stay the first or last night of your trip. But I guess that there are other lodges outside the city near the airport and peaceful...

We arrived at this hotel fairly late at night but were greeted promptly upon arrival by a very friendly staff member who provided the room key and arranged for someone to bring our bags to our room. The room itself was very spacious with a good size bathroom, king bed and even a shared balcony (no tv). I would classify this as a transit hotel where you stay a night or two before the start of your safari. We stayed two nights before and one night at the end of our safari and we have no real complaints but I probably wouldn't stay here for a full week. The staff is very friendly, the food is good, and the grounds are nice and include a swimming pool and the property is gated so you are safe. You would never know there was a lodge like this tucked in the middle of this neighborhood. I didn't find anything wrong with the neighborhood, I might not walk outside the grounds of the lodge by myself but overall I felt very safe in Arusha. Our driver did say the lodge was in the poorer section of the city but it was an interesting place to see. As others have noted, there is a multi-use church right next door and you can hear the mosque prayers starting around 4am and a amplified mega-church service around 7am. I would just recommend keeping your windows closed, which we did but you can still hear it a bit. Overall we had a nice stay here and would recommend it for a night or two.

This place is peaceful, offers great food, is run by a very caring capable staff (especially the manager, Yuster). I spent 2 nights here, and wished I could make it to 2 months. Highly recommended for solo travellers and couples looking for some peace and quiet.

Very nice and clean place in the city. Good starting/end point for safari trip. We stayed in room far from the church (##20+) and it was no noise at all. Great lobby, friendly staff. Some monkeys around ;) Internet did not work.

We arrived late at night in Arusha and the manager kindly asked if we wanted a meal. We did, so his kitchen staff stayed and prepared a lovely meal. We were a little taken aback by the prices (US$20 per person) until we realised this way typical for Tanzania tourist spots. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable and good bathrooms. Unfortunately we did not have time to use the pool. One small problem was that our room was right next to a church and they began their services at 6am. It definitely woke us up and the kids. The manager had warned us the night before, or else I would have thought there was a riot in the streets. I'm not sure if the services are everyday, or just the day we happened to be there, but in any case, we had planned an early (but not quite that early) start to our safari. The breakfast was also very good. The manager also kindly allowed us to leave several bags that we did not need on safari that we picked up at the end of our safari.

I really want to give 31/2 stars. The positives are an excellent staff; I thought the room was nice; the food was very good, especially the homemade bread at breakfast. The negatives are there is nothing to do there, no wifi, and then there is the many times mentioned loud music at 6AM. None of these things really bothered me as we got there late and left early. I think it is fine as a jumping off point for your safari.

The best way to look at your stay at Olasiti Lodge is that it will be simply an interesting stop-over to your next destination. The service was excellent and we felt like the only ones staying there which was quite special. Our rooms were good and the grounds are really beautiful with a beautiful pool. Olasiti lodge, I believe is the only lodge in Arusha within the Tanganyika Wilderness Camps group. The owner of these camps is Willie and he is a real star in Tanzania and a huge champion for using only Tanzanian home made resources and staff. He is also apparently the Director of Tourism in Tanzania. Unlike other hotels and guide companies, he makes sure that all the food used in his lodges and camps are Tanzanian made and that natives of Tanzania work at all of his lodges. This is something that was really important to me and put everything in perspective about Olasiti lodge and made me want to support Willie and his camps and Kibo guide business. Too many times I've visited places abroad and its the foreigners who own the guide business and the camps and they are the only ones benefiting from the tourism business. The service and food might not be french and impeccable but it is always done with a smile, tremendous warmth and hospitality and we felt incredibly welcomed wherever we went in Willie's camps. The church noise next door did start as a low hum around 4 am which I actually enjoyed for awhile but did get quite loud however a few hours later. I chose to look at this as a cultural experience rather than a nuisance. I chose to focus on the beautiful Olasiti lodge grounds as well as the warm, inviting and helpful staff. We had the unique pleasure to meet and speak with Willie at Olasiti Lodge during our stay. He made us feel tremendously welcome on our first day in Tanzania. We couldn't wait to start our journey after speaking with him. Thank you so much Willie for making us feel so at home and welcome in your beautiful hotel.

We stayed a night here after a late arrival from the airport and one more night on the start of an Overseas Adventure Travel tour. The lodge was impressive on first look and the staff provided us a light supper the first night. The rooms were not luxury but were quite adequate and they did have nets for the beds. I spotted one mosquito and would have liked to have had a spray for it but they did not provide spray. The grounds are landscaped and have interesting monkeys. The main welcome or reception room is large opens to the buffet breakfast and dining area with a view of the pool. No one used the pool while we were there. It was not that hot outside. The breakfast was plentiful and good with omlets. We toured several places nearby the first day and got our first real look at the area outside the compound. There was an outdoors style market and lots of small Africa shops. The roads are busy and so are what passes for sidewalks. We were not brave enough to wander out on our own and didn't see any shops nearby with stuff we needed. There is a good gift shop in the hotel with reasonable but fixed prices. A number of fellow guests complained about early wakeup calls from nearby mosque and nearby church. I wore ear plugs and did not hear it. You could hear the music all morning long so it is loud. I would have liked to have been in an area where there was more for a Westerner to do on their own, but the location seemed safe and was guarded. We stopped again on our return from safari and had the use of a room for a day for napping or readying for our night flight. The food served as part of our tour was good and the staff was friendly enough. It is not the hotel I would advise staying in for a long time, but it was a good jumping off point for our tour and a respite prior to the two hour airport drive to KJO.
