I was lucky enough to run into another traveler in Khiva who recommended this gem of a place in Samarkand. It's a small, family-run B&B just 5 mins walk from the historic Registan site. They just opened up in Spring of 2009 so their half dozen comfy double rooms all have nice new beds/furniture/modern bathrooms. The family is wonderfully welcoming and the eldest son speaks English. The room rate includes a good breakfast served in the lovely traditional shady courtyard and with a few hours notice (and additional charge) they can serve up a tasty dinner of Uzbek national dishes.

You can't beat the location or the service. Highly recommended.
