This Ryokan was recommended and features strongly in several guides for good reason. All the staff not just the Okami san are genuinely helpful and understanding regardless of your language skills, thinking of things you might need before you do such as booking the furano bath for private use. Dinner and breakfast were freshly prepared, tasty, interesting, and as always... more

A wonderful hotel located in a very interesting city. The hotel is about a $10CNS taxi ride from the JR station. The hotel is located in the historical part of Kurashiki. The cab driver, unknown to us must have contacted the hotel as when we arrived the staff were waiting for our arrival. Our bags were removed from the taxi,... more

After many nights in different motels, this expierience raises the bar for the rest.. The fantastic attention given by the locals, was by far the best ever. The food was ,well no words can justify. The walk in the garden was like traveling back 500 years or better. I enjoyed the tea ceremony, and how each movement has a meaning.I have been blessed with... more

I couldn't recommend this place enough. From the minute you step foot inside the Ryokan Kurashiki you know you are somewhere special. Kimino-clad women tend your every need. This is Japanese hospitality at its very best. The rooms are amazing. I recommend eating dinner in the room for one night (two's a bit much!). This was a 10 course banquet... more

Stayed for two nights in Sept 08 at this hotel. Made reservation directly on line. Hotel has CNN in English- something most hotels in Japan do not have. Room was a good size & best location for the town. Many restaurants nearby as well as 7/11's etc. Less than a 10 min walk to train staion. Reservation staff speak English... more

We really enjoyed our night in this ryokan in Kurashiki. The property is just stunning and the room we reserved (called the Matsu room) was quite mind-blowing in that it was bigger than our apartment in London (even though our place in London is quite large). The room was stylish and Japanse-style, except the bedroom. The bath was excellent, we... more

I can only agree with the praise expressed by other reviewers. Everything about our stay here was wonderful. Our daughter, who is vegetarian, was dreading yet another meal comprising only tofu and aubergines, but her meal here was a varied, imaginative delight. Indeed, the food was presented so beautifully that it seemed like an act of vandalism to eat it.... more

Absolutely outstanding ryokan, and highly recommended. The staff were genuine and warm. Several little touches that made the whole experience wonderful. Dinner was an exotic treat. Make sure you arrive by 3pm to fully enjoy the experience, including tea on arrival and the bath. The town of Kurashiki was a gem, and make sure you walk around. The local museum... more

From start to finish, my stay at the Kurashiki was an extraordinary experience. The inn is old, a sugar merchants home and office, that has been converted to an Japanese inn on what must be one of the most gracious streets in all of Japan. The service is extraordinary, the rooms are large and comfortable, filled with antiques as well... more

A ryokan is a small, traditional Japanese guest house where you sleep on a bedroll on a tatami (straw) floor. The Ryokan Kurashiki (pronounced "Kurash-ki") is a prime example with friendly service and wonderful food--some of which we had never eaten before. The Ryokan Kurashiki is located in the Bikan district, an historical district surrounding a canal and loaded with... more
