Our family really enjoyed staying at this property. It was our first stay in Japanese-style accommodation, but we did choose western-style rooms, which had module-style bathrooms/showers (rooms 206 & 207). Later in our trip we “graduated” to full Japanese style. In fairness, the hotel is a little tired and I’m sure that there are other places in the Hakone area... More

An inspired choice to book this ryokan/inn for 1 night's stay to experience a full-fledged Japanese ryokan experience, complete with onsen. As it was my 1st time in Japan, wanted to have the experience of a traditional ryokan stay, complete with traditional Japanese cuisine. Room was clean and comfortable (booked a twin room with western bedding), and meals (kiseki dinner... More

Great experience in a traditional Japanese Ryokan with Onsen (hot natural water bath). Very good Dinner. Highly recommended! A very good location near the lake and the funicular to access the other locations to visit in hakone. splendid.

The most important thing to note about this accommodation is that it is effectively in the middle of nowhere. We had thought that in Tougendai, being at the end of the Hakone Ropeway and the port for the ferries across Lake Ashinoko, there would be some kind of village or town in which we could get food/snacks etc - there... It's near the togendai rope way/ship- which is one of the key attractions in hakone. The journey from the train station took about 45min though. There is not much restaurants near the area so I would suggest you take their dinner set (cause its really really dark out there at night) unless you drive. The outdoor bath is small, fit... More

Spend couple days in Shinjuku ( Toyko ) try to discover a good hotspring but not too far to reached. Hotel stuff advice me about the resort in Hakone. So I get this one o the net.Good choice for a short trip stay away from the busy Toyko. Inexpentive price but way higher quality service, food with good feature for... More

Let me start by saying that Ashinoko Ichinoyu is not your typical ryokan. If you are expecting personalized treatment and highly attentive service, this will not be a place for you. However, if you are looking for a nice, relatively inexpensive place to set up base for exploring Hakone, please continue reading... Ashinoko Ichinoyu is small 'budget' ryokan. They have... More

My wife and me were travelling through Hakone with our two kids (15 and 7) and with the onsen/ryokan way of charging per person instead of room, things were looking bleak. Some of the better places would have been 1500-2000 USD/night! Enter Ashinoko Ichinoyu. A smaller budget place that had just what we needed. We wanted to try a typical... More

Despite what the address here says, this hotel is actually in Togendai, not Hakone-machi or Motohakone. (The map is accurate.) It is close to the ropeway and the pier, about 15 minutes walk if you don't take a shortcut through the parking lot of Hotel Hakone Academy, much shorter if you do. However, the hotel is not very visible from... More
