We ended up here after a near disaster at the ryokan across the street wanting to charge us double... The staff were incredibly friendly, they had English speaking staff, I had an excellent massage, we had an onsen in our room and also tried the private ones and the public ones - all great - just wished they had an... We bought a 3D Hakone Freepass and Limited Express 'Romance Car' to Hakone. Ichinoyu Hokan is 5 bus stops away from the Hakone Yumoto station. This hotel is conveniently situated, the bus stop to alight which call 塔ノ沢 is just across the hotel. We (4pax) stayed in this Japanese style room with private outdoor hot spring bath at Level 1.... We have just arrived here in the pouring rain. Lovely, friendly welcome and the most amazing room. We are on a corner overlooking a mountain stream that is rushing over rcks and making the most wonderful sound. We have our own, private onsen and have just been sitting in the gloriously hot water, listening to the stream/torrent below, and watching... More

We (2 adults and 1 child) stayed there for 1 night in May 2013 first week. This was our 3rd japanese style hotel, si we were quite aware of what to expect, but the attitude of the management and staff was very bureaucratic to say the least. A) There is no elevator, so going upto the third floor room and... More

We arrived into Hakone after spending 6 days is bustling Tokyo, and from the second you get off the train in Hakone-Yamoto, you can tell you're into the quiet hills. To get to the hotel there are two options depending on how heavy your bags are, the first is via bus. Catch the train to Hakone-yamoto and then catch a... More

We decided to stay at this ryokan to get a taste of the traditional Japanese culture. That we got. Rooms are basic and the staff speaks only limited English. However without exception all staff members tried to make the stay as pleasant as possible. The hotel itself can use some painting and repairing. Our room had a private outside onsen... More

Before I say anything about this place, let me give some pointers on the rules etc here, since some may have done what I did which was come to this site to see what people said about how it is to stay here. This is a traditional Japanese place, which means shared bathrooms, slippers everywhere, squat bathrooms etc. In terms... More

We stayed in the Rokuyan for only one night but would have loved to stay longer. We arrived early having come from Hiroshima and was able to leave our luggage whilst we explored. We wanted a taste oftradition and thats exactuly what we got. Our room was laid out in tatami and overlooked the river which had a very soothing... More

We stayed for 2 days 1 night and would wanted very much to extend but they are fully booked! Upon arrival at 10am, we were greeted by a friendly English speaking staff. Although we had read abt them being able to converse in English, it was still a nice feeling to be able to meet a service staff with good... More

Let's start with all the good stuff. This was our first stay in a traditional ryokan and did not disappoint. We stayed in Sakura room, and was a great position overlooking the river with private onset. Food experience was fantastic, staff friendly and slept like a log to the sound of the river. It is just 5 minutes from Tonasawa... More
