It's my first experience with a Ryokan. I'm travelling with my hubby and a 2.5 years old and 6 months old so wanted some place that is safe for them. the experience with taiseikan starts from their private tram (which my girl loves). The tram gets to the bottom of a valley & you walk a hilly but pretty area... more

Overpriced and maybe a bit too isolated. Once we had our dinner in our room it was too complicated to go back up to explore the town. But very nice outside bath fed by hot springs. I would recommend a Ryokan experience elsewhere, and in future, I would rather choose a hotel stay in the Hakone area. more

From the month we spent in Japan the stay at this Ryokan was my most authentic Japanese Experience. The location is very nice - very calm and green! The room really big for a Ryokan and the food fantastic! The staff is so elegant and nice and will provide perfect service. We booked the private outdoor baths which was an... more

I would recomend this onsen for a perfect honeymoon. We reserved a cottage with own bath and view over the river. The room was spacious, though slightly old, and you could hear the river. Very calm place. The staff was extremely friendly and a maid was "attached" to us through our stay. I would recommend to reserve a private bath... more

Taiseikan was the second ryokan we stayed during our trip. Because of the bad experience of the first ryokan, we didn't dare to have high hopes for Taiseikan, but everything about this ryokan blew us away. From the friendly check-in staff to the attentive service from the employees, we loved everything about this place. We were given the best room... more

After a few very busy days in Tokyo we were very much looking forward to staying here and having a ryokan experience. We were not disappointed! We took the Romance Car from Shinjuku station all the way to Hakone Yumoto. From there you can catch the Hakone Tozan line to the Miyanoshita stop which is the closest stop to the... more

My wife and I stayed at Taiseikan for 2 nights in May. This ryokan was one of the best experiences we had while we were vacationing in Japan and this was a very good contrast to the bright lights, big city of the big cities. This ryokan is nestled in a valley in Miyanoshita, where we took a 6 min... more

I had several friends in Japan who recommended staying in Hakone when visiting Tokyo. And to think I was going to pass it up for more time in Kyoto! Staying in a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) is something that you definitely have to do once in your life. I researched many places before settling on this one and I'm so... more

A truly amazing experience. After taking the little switchback train over the mountains, you arrive in the town of Myanoshita. It's a bit of a hike down the hill to the Ryokan's private funicular (be careful on that main road through town as there isn't much of a sidewalk--don't bother with lots of luggage). At their cable car station (the... more

It had always been a dream for my wife and I to visit Japan after 7 years of watching the weekly “Japan Hour” TV program. The program would feature interesting ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) / hotel venues as well as mouth-watering food that were served there. Often, we would see the featured visitor tucking into his meal with passionate exclamations... more
