Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's not an easy decision to book a hotel that very few reviews of it can be found. But for some reason the hotels in Takamatsu are heavily booked on the day I visited, and I have to catch an early train on the next day. So I made the booking. The hotel is about 7-8 minutes walk from Takamatsu train station, in a quiet small alley, while the busy streets of Takamatsu are just few steps away. There are lots of stores nearby, but it's very quiet in front of the hotel. Interesting. I was deeply impressed by this hotel for one sole reason: the old man sitting in the front desk. From the way he talks to other staff, I guess he is the owner of this hotel. This gentleman speaks very good English and is very helpful. Without asking, he showed me a local map and guided me about the nearby shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and some attractions I may be interested. He also told me he could lend me a bicycle for free if I need it. He also helped me out during the breakfast next morning, when I had difficulties communicating with the staff. I have stayed in about 30 hotels in Japan. Japanese hotel staff are usually very polite, but they won't do anything you are not asked for, and they tend to avoid complex conversations with English speakers. It was my first time to actually chat with a Japanese hotel staff. That's why I'm impressed by this hotel. It made me feel like I was staying in a nice ryokan rather than a hotel. The hotel itself, I have to say, is not as impressing as the its owner. The room is comfortable, but feels a bit old. The bathroom is so small that I doubt a western person could fit in. The breakfast is so-so. But for the price, I think it's OK. You can buy a good room, but you can't buy a good mood.
