Acacia tortilis is a small to medium-sized evergreen tree or shrub. ‘Acacia,’ from the Greek word ‘akis’, means a point or a barb. ‘Tortilis’ means twisted and refers to the pod structure. Amboseli means salty dust in the Masai language. Literally, we chose to stay for 3 nights in a twisted, barbed, salty and dusty place named the Tortilis in... More

We had a brilliant stay at Tortilis Camp - it has a relaxed atmosphere and the staff are all lovely. The tents were very comfortable and there was always plenty of hot water and also good facilities for charging camera batteries. The pool is also a real bonus as it was extremely hot when we were there. The only downside... More

If you wish to see the Big Game of Africa, this is the place. Great safari camp with excellent guides. We stayed here for three nights and slept in a delightful hut. This hotel was arranged for us by Simon Gluckman of Intrepid Expeditions. More

We stayed 2 nights at Tortilis having had 3 nights at Porini Camp in the adjacent Conservancy (excellent). The location, facilities, staff and game drives were all excellent. The only 'below average' item was the food - particularly dinner which was unimaginative and a bit institutional - the other tented camps we stayed in had much better planned, prepared and... More

We spent two nights here and while the mountain only peaked through the clouds briefly, it is a beautiful location. The Managers and staff are amazing. I became ill during our stay & they could not do enough for me. The staff referred to us by name each time they greeted us, and the food was fantastic. The only downside... More

When staying in Tortilis, we did not really need much more than the stunning surrounding setting and the generous hospitality Tortilis offers. The majestic mountain looking down at us, the splendid private family tent, a helping hand everywhere and lovely Italian food. The family cottage we stayed in is spacious , offers a lot of privacy and a magnificent (Kilimanjaro)view.... More

We are a family of four - kids 13 and 15... We arrived at Amboseli for a two night stay after being picked up by our driver/guide at the Kenya border. We'd had some issues that day up to that point with our travels and were ready to get there and relax... Our driver/guide picked us up and amazed us... More

With unrivalled views of Mount Kilimanjaro from this delightful camp, managed extremely well by Andrea and Manuela it is hard to find fault with Tortilis Camp. We are fortunate enough to live in Kenya but would understand that for visitors for whom this may be a once in a lifetime trip, Amboseli may be disappointing in terms of game viewing.... More

My husband Jim and I spent two nights and three days at the Tortilis Camp hoping for an authentic feel of Africa while sleeping in a tented camp. We were so very pleased. Everything from the managers of the camp, their staff, the food, the accomodations, the warm and welcome feeling we received each and every time we came in... More

I was travelling in September with my two sons and their wives. I was with a girlfriend and we requested a tent with twin beds and the others to have queen. We had the family tent that accommodated our twin bed tent and a queen bed tent all under one roof with a large open area living room overlooking the... More
