We were expecting our accommodation in Taman Negara jungle to be very basic but Mutiara was a pleasant surprise. The staff were very friendly and gave us welcome drinks and towels as soon as we arrived which was a nice touch after the boat journey. We spent two nights at this accommodation at the end of September 2009 and booked this in the UK in advance of travelling. The location is amazing and nothing could really spoil the natural splenour of a rainforest setting - where there are no loggers - but this resort does no justice to the setting and feels neglected and tired.... more

If you've been happy to sit on a cramped boat travelling up the river for hours to the Mutiara you will hopefully not be expecting the height of rainforest luxury. Foul miserable sullen staff. The service was laughably bad. I was surprised they didn't offer torture on the menu. It's vastly overpriced. Wretched food. Horrible rooms. Filthy.
