My Dad booked this hotel only because it was the only hotel available for our impromptu vacation. The plan was to go to Penang but stop at Ipoh for a couple of days to meet a family friend. The room we booked was a Jr. suite (for 3 people) but he had told the desk that there would be 4... more

We stayed overnight in this hotel. The check in was efficient and front office staff were friendly and helpful. Security in the hotel was good. The carpets in the room and corridor looked worn out. The bathroom tiles were moldy, toilet flush leaked and there was a piece of plastic stuck in the bath-tub tap which is used to open... more

Stayed there for 2 nights, there was a group of 5 adults and 1 child sharing 2 rooms. The reception looks nice and grand, and on entering the rooms, we thought we'd got some value for our money. On closer inspection, we found pubic hairs on the bed and blood stained sheets. We then saw the bathroom, which needed a... more

This hotel needs a some upgrading no doubt that the rate is cheap. It is very convenient and easy to find as most of the shops and restaurants are within walking distance. The newly opened fun pub, DNA Piazza is just marvellous as me and my colleage can hang out during our night time. The singers and staffs are very... more

This is actually my third stay at the Syuen. A newer, larger hotel in Ipoh lost my reservation, so I end up at the Syuen unexpectedly. Location was just as convenient for job, and closer to shopping. Staff much more knowledgable. Most I encountered personally were courteous and helpful. Room rate was great. In-room internet access limited to certain floors,... more

Stayed here for one night in October en-route to KL. The hotel advertises as a 4 star but a 2.5 would be more the mark. The hotel is tired and badly in need of a makeover. Soiled carpets and broken and missing tiles were evident. Room was reasonable. Breakfast was basic. One night stopover is my limit. more

The Syuen claims to be the no. 1 hotel in Ipoh, but this can only be because the competition is so limited. Nothing is seriously wrong, which is perhaps surprising since so little seems to have been done by way of maintenance since the hotel was built. Carpets in the communal areas are badly stained, the escalators which connect the... more

Stay end Nov 2007 till early Dec 2007. Found Furniture/fixtures, especially the cupboards dusty. Run out of bath and hand towel. Wash basin choke, otherthen that, it is okay. This is more a 3 stars than a 4 stars hotel. Rate too high for a 3 stars hotel. more

Sells itself as a 4 star, but it isn't like any 4 star I've been to. Rooms were nice enough and clean, but noisy. Breakfasts were not good and front desk staff were a bit off-hand and gave us wrong information - told us we had to pay for the free WiFi interent access in the lobby. There are much... more
