We just got back from staying at China Tiger, and the apartment was one of the highlights of our Penang trip. It is huge; we love the color, detail, and artistry of the place; it manages to integrate different cultural elements--Chinese, Malay, Indian, tribal--into one artsy and hip whole. Also much appreciated were the thoughtful touches, such as a sewing... More

My husband and I loved this shophouse! Our parents did not really fancy it because they had to climb a steep flight of stairs (I should have thought about that). However, everything else was very good. They stocked enough food and drinks for us. The property is very clean and it's definitely special. The only con is that we parked... More

We rented China Tiger recently for our family of 5 (2 adults, three children aged 16,14 and 14) and were incredibly impressed. The room is very large and cool, and beautifully furnished. It's in a perfect position, with the ferry terminal a few minutes walk away and Little India right outside the door. Plenty of wonderful little restaurants, shops and... More

Next to a castle in Tuscany, my husband and I agreed this was a most amazing stay. We just got back from a week's stay in the merchant house, hosted by the most generous, warm and considerate pair in Rebecca and David. Our two children and we enjoyed a huge place, two bedrooms with own very large and handsome bathrooms,... More

We were in Penang on business for 2.5 weeks and this was the perfect base with wonderful decor and lots of space to spread out our books etc. You can walk to lots of the good bits of Penang from here including lots of fantastic food of course! Rebecca and David were great hosts.

We found China Tiger through Tripadvisor. A simple Google search brought us to discover the Merchant House right next door, also part of China Tiger. Being originally from Penang, I knew instantly that I wanted to have our wedding ceremony at the Merchant House, which is the main property, as it has been so beautifully restored and decorated with vintage... We stayed at China Tiger, a boutique hotel, in Penang for a couple of nights over Christmas. It proved to be the highlight of our holiday in Malaysia. Set in a renovated Chinese trader's house in the heart of Georgetown, its location makes it ideal to explore by foot the mix of the old and new worlds of Penang. China... More

This place is very good. It is clean, cool en very nicely decorated; you can see that the owners are artists (they have an art gallery at the ground floor). There is a kitchen with everything you need, there are refreshments and things like yogurt and muesli, and biscuits. Everything have ben thought of in great detail. And the space... More

Bohemian chic, comforatble, clean, cheerful, spacious, colorful, re-freshing...it was my sanctuary for a few weeks! You have your little French-like city kitchenette, wide dining and living hall, comfortable beds and all so absolutely charming! I felt totally independant as a visitor business travellor or tourist. Very unlike the normal 5 star hotels and thier offerings. You're seconds away from King... More
