I have travelled to quite a few areas of PNG and found Madang to be very safe. We even walked back from the Yacht Club to the Resort late at night and at no time felt in danger. We borrowed a vehicle and went exploring, visited the local markets, met the locals at their beaches, and did some general sightseeing....
