Never thought I would be going to Roumania, but it turned out I had to attend a conference at the University in Cluj. The hotel Capitol was small, no lift, but it had excellent staff who were most helpful, free email access, great breakfast, had a phone as well as airconditioning and cost only €45 a night. It's within easy walking distance of the university as well as the main street of the town. A stone's throw from this hotel is the Hotel Capitolina, also excellent value for money. And another plus, it had plenty of tv channels in English (with subtitles) so you weren't reduced to watching CNN 24/7. Big plus.

Great cafe at the top of the street (Marty's) and an excellent Japanese restaurant nearby with brilliant food.
