I stayed at "Hostel Asia" for 10 days, in December 2000 (even though tripadvisor forces me to chose between 2003 and 2008...). At the time, I was a student travelling on a very tight budget, so I picked this hostel based on the rates alone.
Even before arriving to Moscow, the staff were very helpful and promptly emailed me all the documents I needed in order to get my VISA.
The arranged transfer from the airport to the hostel went very smoothly. Once there, they took care of registering my VISA and showed me to the, admittedly, modest accomondations. The place was clean, but you should not expect any luxuries. It is ideal for someone travelling low-budget, but I wouldn't recommend it to families or seniors. As an 18 year old woman, I felt very safe, and was not once bothered by the men watching tv in the small lobby, although it did feel a little strange passing in front of them every time.
