The smart, modern and spacious exterior and reception area belies the reality. Surly receptionists claimed no reservations had been made, necessitating an expensive cell-phone call to my client, and involving handing the phone to the receptionist who finally bothered to look for the booking on her system. Check-in took 40 minutes! Then to the room, which was a disgrace, comprising sad melamine furniture and a single bed with sagging mattress. Carpet stained all over. Shower room functional. 5th floor window provided panoramic view of river and derelict factories (not the fault of the hotel!), but paint peeling off window frames added to overall depressing environment.
Overpowering odor of stale cigarettes throughout the hotel.
Bar area was busy in the evening - largely patronised by what appeared to be prostitutes seeking business.
