This hotel does not deserve to be a Shangri-la. The property lies on very well tendered grounds with gardens all around and it is right on the lake. Views of the lake are amazing the ouside of the property is palacial but that's it. The entrance hall very bare and boring, check-in very slow. Overall staff appear to be not... more

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in October 2008. The lobby was ok, not really a grand one but not too tight. The staff were helpful and spoke English. The breakfast buffet was great but a little expensive. The location was right on West Lake but not really near the main attractions and markets but taxis are... more

The only nice thing about this hotel was the location and the BIG bed. The rest left alot to be desired. The Coffee garden was disgraceful. they have an offer for dinner witht he buffet wherre youget free flow beer but the beer was flat every time. The salmon sashimi had bones through and the all the dim sum was... more

during a recent stay in the East Wing of the Shangri La, i had a nice suite with a balcony overlooking West Lake. contrary to other reviewers, check-in was a breeze (it is very common in China to use a passport a check-in). the room itself was large, with high ceilings and a large balcony; however i found the staff... more

We booked 2 rooms. One Execuitve suite and a standard type of room. I stayed in the standard. No view of Lake at all. I can only comment on the stay of this room. The Executive room had a view of the Lake. Check-in - Terrible, we were told that we each had to have a passport to ensure that... more

My first booking with a Shangri La was recently in Hangzhou. Through their website I booked a non-smoking room in their East Wing and the rate said it included breakfast. The property is magnificent. Though old, the property has a nostalgic charm, and sits on a massive 30-acre garden. Being a five-star hotel chain, one would be forgiven for being... more

We stayed for a weekend at the Hangzhou Shangri-la on a "Villa" package. The package itself included a few extras like massage, bike rental, etc. But for the price, we were expecting a MUCH nicer room. This was 3 stars at best, and nothing fantastic. Not very big (although with a high ceiling), and furnishings were spartan. No separate shower... more

Upon check-in, I was told to go to the 6th floor... they had upgraded our room to the Horizon Club, where breakfast, cocktails and hor dourves are served (all included). I was told my mountain view room wasn't ready (we were early), but for $50 (USD) more, I can have a lake view room. I planned to decline, but wanted... more

When visiting Hangzhou stay in the Shangrila Hotel on West Lake & request a balcony room in the East Wing for views over the lake and of the city. This is without doubt the very best hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms are pretty standard, but the location, reception area and gardens are magnificent. The outstanding buffet breakfasts... more
