Convenient location for NE temples and philosophers walk but taxis are necessary for the town, Gion and other further afield places. Also close to subway so not too bad. Rooms are traditionally decorated and are in need of an upgrade. Walls are paper thin and windows even thinner. All-in-all enjoyed the stay and would recommend it with the above in... more

We went during the Sakura season and as Kyoto was known as the cultural capital of Japan, we thought it would be nice to stay in a ryokan. Most ryokan were fully booked during that time so we stayed at Yachiyo for 2 nights since they were available. During this trip we stayed at 2 ryokans with Yachiyo being the... more

After readaing the reviews, trying to contact other Ryokan and finding out they were fully booked or more expensive than this (!!), I decided to book the Yachiyo. I booked a room with shared bathroom, because I was very determinated to try this experiene but without a big budget. The owner is very old, and from this I think everything... more

We stayed at this ryokan on our last nite in Kyoto. Location is nice with temples nearby and is peaceful but it is too far from other attractive sites. The ryokan entrance is nice with trees but staff reception is so so. We arrived before check in time so had to wait in the lounge, did not see many staff... more

The Yachiyo website is quite attractive, and despites the high prices (around USD 388 per person!!) we decided to stay for our wedding anniversary in the 16 tatami room with a private garden. I was expecting much more: the welcome was average: when we arrived at 2 p.m we were told that check in time is only at 3, and... more

Stayed one night with my girlfriend during our trip in Osaka/Kyoto. My girlfriend loved the ryokan since she saw the website. However the ryokan is not as beautiful as on the website. The location is nice, next to all these temple, very like this peaceful feeling especially in the morning. But the room has nothing special and quite small. About... more

We stayed at Ryokan yachiyo for a night in may 2008 during our month-long trip to Japan. We just loved this property. This is Kyoto. So far, this is the best resort or hotel stay experience. our old 16tatami mat room overlooked Traditional japanese garden, it was so peaceful after staying in a hotel in central Kyoto. more

Recently stayed at Yachiyo and can not complain about anything. The staff was wonderful and spoke just enough English. We had an 18-tatami mat room with private bathroom and it was enough for 4 adults to sleep comfortably. I have stayed in many ryokans across Japan, and this one is among the best stays I've had. We didn't do any... more

We stayed at Yachiyo as part of a honeymoon in Japan. Overall, you get the traditional ryokan experience, but I think it was way too expensive compared to hotels. This ryokan is about a 10 minute walk from the Metro/subway station. We got a tatami mat room, w/ 2 small separate rooms containing toilet and deep bathtub. The small sink... more

We booked Yachiyo for six nights, and intended to use it as a base for our time touring around the Kansai region. We only stayed there for three. "Traditional", could easily be describing something that is old. Kyoto and it's temples are old... Yachiyo is just shabby. We paid about £200 for two of us to stay there (not inc... more
