The hotel is located near the Hollander Slope, Glover Garden and the old westerner settlement area, which makes it a good place to stay for sightseeing. When the weather is good, try taking a morning walk around the Hollander Slope or the Umi-no -mori Park. I really liked the atmosphere. Though it's not exactly in the center of the city,... more

Easy to find; a stones throw from the tram stop. When entering you feel that you have left Japan and arrived in Italy or somewhere Mediterranean (not entirely sure why that decor). Staff were efficient, room clean though rather warm. We were there for some unseasonal warm weather and had a devils job to get the aircon working (this turned... more

It was a touch of Europe in the middle of Japan, which is very apt for a city like Nagasaki. Antique styled elevators and very cozy rooms welcome you to Nagasaki and set the theme for your Nagasaki experience. It is also walking distance to China Town, the Hollander Slopes and a Tram station. From the station, everything else is... more

Stayed at the Monterey for one night and were delighted by the cozy European flair and 'castle' design of the building/interiors (as compared to the usual rather 'ugly' box-type standard Japanese hotels). The reception staff was very friendly and accommodating and even let us check in a couple of hours earlier for free, which is virtually impossible in most Japanese... more

Friendly hotel, simple luxury. Our room was large and quiet, good bathroom, furnishing colonial style which is cosy when you dim the lights ;-) We did not have breakfast here. Free internet. Access from JR station is by tram 1 and then 5. Although you have to change it is quite easy and quick, and most hotels are in this... more

Hotel location is a little away from the main sights but convenient for Glover Gardens and easy to reach by tram. Don't rely on Lonely Planet (Oct '07 ed) for direction as the map is way off as we found to our cost! Bar and restaurant seemed to open very limited and erratic times so we never made use. Hotel... more

Great hotel with wonderful staff within walking distance of Nagasaki shopping, Glover gardens, Chinese area, trolley. The rooms are well-appointed and clean, many of them looking out on the courtyard. One of my best hotel experiences in Japan. more

A beautiful Portuguese themed hotel in a nice location in Nagasaki. Many attractions within walking distance. The rooms are beautiful, spotless and quite roomy. Ethernet access to the Internet in the rooms. Room is bright and bathroom has good amenities. I would definitely stay here again. Nice hotel management. more

An 800 yen taxi ride from Nagasaki station. This European style hotel is a gem. Has a beautiful chapel with furnishings from Portugal as well as a lamp museum! The rooms were well appointed and good value, however, be wary of the large step outside each room. A stone`s throw from the Hollander Slope and an easy walk to Glover... more
