We came for a quick one-nighter to visit the bookstore, still all keyed up from our high-pressure jobs. After we adjusted to the hectic pace of the Lonesome Dove Inn - browsing through books, taking a bubble bath, sitting on the back porch sipping wine and chatting - we figured we were in good enough shape to extend our stay for another night. Fortunately there was a vacancy so we got another go at Mary's intelligent hospitality and delightful breakfast.

Comfortable bed, thoughtful amenities, considerate service. I sometimes find B&Bs too intrusive. Not this one. This is a do-as-you-please, respectful, comfortable place. Everything worked.

We came for Larry McMurtry's incredible bookstore Booked Up. We stayed for the serenity of the Lonesome Dove Inn.

And we are so glad that we did! The Innkeeper is Mary Webb and she is a long-time Archer City resident. Turns out that when Mr. McMurtry is in town, he often stays with Mary rather than open up his big house. Since...
