When my wife traveled to California and back in early September, we decided it would be safest, with respect to the chance of getting covid-19, if we lived separately after her return. So, when she returned in mid-September, I went to this Residence Inn for the last two weeks of September. I had originally thought to book an Airbnb, but I found that this hotel was considerable cheaper than an Airbnb. My average per day cost at the Tech Ridge Residence Inn was around $65. My stay here was excellent. Everything I needed was available. I needed reliable, fast wifi in order to work at my remote job, and the normal free wifi was quite fast (no need to upgrade to Marriott's paid wifi). The workspace was suberb, a big long desk, maybe 10 feet long, with space for the 2 laptops and 2 monitors I needed for my work. And, plenty of up to date, modern electrical plugs. The ktichen and supply of plates and utensils enabled me to prepare my own meals. I can't tell you how good the bed was, it was among the most comfortable I have ever slept on. The room was 500 square feet and felt spacious. By the way, I recommend their studio rooms. The one bedroom with a door that closes is attractive if you need the privacy of a separate bedroom, but it is exactly the same size as the studio, all they do is build a wall to make a room where the bed is. I much preferred to not have the wall, the bed is already sort of separated because it's in a sort of alcove. The way this hotel did social distancing was really thoughtful. No member of the hotel staff will enter your room while you are in it, you need to make an appointment and be out of the room. You are given trash bags and told to leave your garbage in a secure bag outside your room at night, and it is picked up by morning. Same for whatever else you need, like fresh linens. If you want someone to come into your room to do something, you just need to arrange it with the front desk. Use of the pool and gym is scheduled so that only one guest (or guest family) can use those things at a time. I loved having the entire pool to myself. Despite being close to 3 major raods: I-35, Parmer Lane and Lamar Blvd., I never heard traffic noise. The hotel is set back in a field, none of those 3 roads are right on top of it, and you don't even see them (at least not on the ground floor where I was). If you like walking, the hotel is in some sort of office park which has a couple of beautiful ponds and walking trails, starting practically at the hotel front door. There are also multiple places to eat, a good HEB supermarket and other places nearby. Walnut Creek park, which is very close, has a hiking trail to 3.1 miles long down to Balcones Park. The staff was always friendly and thoughtful. The only issue I ever had was resolved by them in a very good way. The refrigerator in my room would make a soft grinding sound when the compressor came on. Most people wouldn't have noticed it, but I was in my room working all day. Their very wonderful maintainence person, Walter, solunteered to move a new refrigerator into my room, and did that. It was *brand* new, right out of the box, and worked really well.…
