Where can I start? This was literally opposite the ferry terminal which was wonderful as we'd had a long trip from Tokyo and were very tired. The owner/manager Shinko speaks very good English and made sure we were totally settled and had everything we needed in our Japanese style room. The room was beautifully laid out with rice paper screens,... more

Yamaichi Bekkan is so close to the harbor that when we asked a tour guide for instructions she actually laughed at us. It might seem a little harsh but it was pleasant for us considering how tired we were from our journey from Osaka and strolling through Hiroshima. I believe we were there on a rainy Wednesday and we were... more

It’s true that Yamaichi Bekkan has a great location, great service, great food, and great prices, but the primary reason anyone going to Miyajima should stay there is Shinko-san, the proprietor and the nicest, most charming person I’ve ever met in my travels around the world. No one who is staying overnight in Miyajima should pass up the opportunity to... more

After readig all the positive reviews, we have booked a room a few months before our trip. However on arrival we were told that our room was given to someone else. The lady owner of the ryokan was very sorry and has felt terrible about the muck up. She called Seaside Hotel which is about a 5min car ride away(further... more

Me and my wife have stayed in this lovely Ryokan for 2 nights 7-8 April 2008. The owner Shinko and her sun Teppe were very friendly, helpful and generous. The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The food (we have ordered Japanese dinners and Western breakfasts) was superb, actually the best we had in Japan. We wish we could... more

This is a lovely traditional family-run ryokan with great atmosphere. While not as high-end as some of the other guest houses on Miyajima (in amenities or price), this was a great choice! The hotel is very quiet and in a great location just across the street from the ferry terminal. It is also convenient for an evening stroll to view... more

I loved this little place, which is not a 5 star resort, it's a little B&B right by the ferry terminal and handy for Miyajima's sights. The food is fantastic! There's restaurants and sushi bar on floor 1 and 2 of this little place. The staff are extremely warm, extremely helpful and overall lovely people. So genuine it makes your... more

My husband and I spent three nights at Yamaichi Bekkan as part of a tour of Japan in March 2008. That stay was the best part of our trip. The hostess, Shinko-san, made us feel so much at home. She speaks good English, gave us good advice on climbing Mount Misen and visiting Hiroshima, and served great Japanese breakfasts and... more

If you're going to come to Miyajima, it's well worth staying for at least one night - you'll then get to see the island in relative peace and quiet once the hordes have departed! Yamaichi is directly opposite the ferry terminal. Very friendly welcome, and great traditional rooms to relax in. The highpoint though is surely the food - amazing!... more

We struggled to locate this little gem - only to find it across the road from the ferry terminal (so please ask for instructions!) We were greeted by Shinko - a lovely lady who spoke good english and was very friendly. Our japanese style room overlooked the sea (and the small ferry terminal - although this didn't bother us). It... more
