Great hostel. I was there during carnival and it was amazing. The staff and owner are the best. The whole hostel went out as one big group. The whole week week was run really well. Great location in the historic centre too. Recommended all year round.

This is a great hostel, with very helpful owners. There are dorm rooms and double (ensuite) rooms available, with lockers for valuables. The pousada is owned by backpacker and to be honest - it's clearly visible. If you expect cleanliness of Hilton or Intercontinentlal you probably will be dissapointed (book Hilton instead) but if you look for a place to spend a night, rest and meet fellow backpacker you probably couldn't find better place. We stayed at the nega maluca for 4 nights and had an amazing experience. It was really clean and had a great communal area and balcony where a very decent breakfast was served. We stayed in the Nega Maluca for about a week and totally loved it. The owners treat you like family. They were very helpful in booking transportation of all kinds and recommending places to eat and things to do and see. Breakfast was great. The common areas are charming. Everything was clean and neat. The location is perfect.
